I wouldn't call Tool a metal band it's putting a label on Tool's music. The thing about Tool is its more art, perfection, and decation to music that sounds unmatched by really any other band. Really Tool maybe one of my generations greatest bands because Tool sound is so pure.

If you were pressed to put it in a category it would be metal but i see where you coming from. lets not get bogged down and over pretentious with this whole "TOOL has no category maaan" if you call Sabbath metal than TOOL has to be as well

      Tool is progressive metal

How is Undertow the debut album when they released Opiate first?

    • Ty

      Opiate was an ep

    • Geoffrey O'Phee

I thought the same thing for a minute. Then i realized Opiate isn't an album. It's an E.P. And what an E.P.!

    • Christina Anderson

Opiate isn't a studio album. If you look at the history of debut music, many aren't the "first" people have heard. Undertow was their first studio album.

Undertow is outstanding. Though, their were some great new things going on in music, Undertow artistically, musically, and universally destroyed their contemporaries at the time. That said, listening to MI's Robert P's review or comments are the equivalent any dude off the street

Used to be able to play along to this motherfucker on guitar from start to finish. if they'd kicked out the stupid last track it would be a perfect album

    Tool is metal now?

Slipknot's self-titled HAS to be on this list

    • Dead1

Of course it will. This site is run by millenial hipsters for millenial hipsters. So they'll ignore all the revolutionary stuff that came out in 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s in favor of something that came out in late 1990s and was loathed by most of the metal community at the time and aimed squarely at 16 year old nu-metal kiddies.

      • Cosmic Sea

Well the results of this list are from a poll done months ago where the public (metal fans who visit Metal Injection) vote on their top 10 debut albums. This is just a by-product of that survey which didn't state what it'd be used for. The public decided, not the editors of the site.

        • Dead1

I totally agree. The results are more of an indictment of the fanbase that frequent the site (as stated millennial hipsters).

I loved the packaging. I remember when I found the picture of the cow licking it's own ass.
