20 horns upThe video was conceptualized by Morbid Angel and video director Thomas Mignone (Slipknot, Mudvayne, Avenged Sevenfold) and produced through his production company DOOM Incorporated. Mignone filmed the band in Tampa. Digital compositing and post-production was then done in Los Angeles with editor & visual efx artist Christopher Neil. The look and style of the video is reminiscent of the classic, silent horror films era, and features the intricate sculptures of artist Krystopher Sapp. The cinematographer was Michael Ferrera. Make-up design FX were created by Rebecca McGillicuddy.

12 horns upFrom director David Hall: The show took place in Northfield, Vermont, about half an hour from Montpellier. I honestly don't know how anyone found the place, as on the website it merely said 'Northfield, VT *outdoor show.' If it wasn't for my gps - which led me through a labrynthe of dense trees, narrow roads, steep hills and sharp turns - I'd probably still be lost in Vermont.
The gig - Wolves in the Throne Room, Thou and a couple opening bands - as in a massive field, on the property of a hobby-farm owned by some underground metal enthusiasts and crust-punks. Super nice people.
The owners had clear-cut a section of their property and built a wooden stage for the bands to play on. The stage was a good half-mile away from any accessible road, and up a muddy embankment from the farm-home; the bands had to ferry their gear from the trailers and vans in a 4 x 4, over various multiple trips, up to the concert site.
It took a good four or five hours to transport the gear, set-up the stage, prepare the PA, wire hte speakers, fuel the generators…basically create a show-worthy space in the middle of a forest.
As the bands checked sound, fiddled with the PA and hoped like hell the whole system wouldn't cack-out, the Crusties set up barriers and ropes to lead the soon-to-arrive folk from the road to the scene of the concert. Torches and oil lamps lit the path. As the sun went down, the landscape transformed into a beautiful and almost mystical environment…a mid-fall's night dream complete with full moon and people drinking home-made mead.
And somehow the people made it. One minute, there was an empty field with a stage, and suddenly, the place had at least 200 people standing around a massive bonfire, waiting for the bands to begin. And miraculously everything went smoothly. The gennies ran fine, the Pa worked like a charm and it sounded fucking amazing.
As Woves in the Throne Room took the stage and began tuning and preparing for their set, the majority of the crowd present swarmed the stage (the "stage" a few inches off the floor, and maybe 8 x 8 feet) and waited.
A few theatre pots lit the general area, and the bonfire provided some light too. I cranked my lens, a 1.8, wide open, jacked the iso on my camera and literally had to push and shove my way to the front of the stage. I crammed myself into a nook near a speaker and began filming. It was easily one of the best concerts I've ever been too, and I'm super proud of how the footage came out…what you see is what you get: intimate, crowded, dark with odd coloms of light. And under the stars and the moon a band in their prime, playing their hearts out.
"Ahrimanic Trance" from the album Black Cascade, Sept 9, 2011, Northfield VT.
