I Hope This 'Sleepin Ass Ben' Package From THE SWORD Is Real

Sword package

Bedwear is a merchandise line that not many bands choose to conquer. Last year, Municipal Waste released a snuggie for a limited time and that's really the only example I could think of. But this package from the Sword is way bigger than just a snuggie. (more…)

GUNS N ROSES, ALICE IN CHAINS, KORN To Headline Rocklahoma 2013

gnrrocklahoma

Wasn't Rocklahoma a hair metal festival at one point? I guess the times change. Today, the promoters of the Memorial Day Oklahoma hoedown announced the lineup for the 2013 iteration of the festival and there are a lot of modern bands on there like The Sword, All That Remains, Alice In Chains, Asking Alexandria, Bullet For My Valentine and the headliners Guns N Roses.

The full lineup is actually not too bad if your tastes lean on the hard rock side: (more…)

THE SWORD Does Not Want You Moshing At Their Shows

NewSongfromTheSword

Moshing… it can be fun, but lately I personally find it to be more of nuisance. I want to see the band, so I try to get up close, but I can't stand too close to the center, because a pit will break out. And, the last thing I want is to be punched in the face. I want to actually enjoy the band.

Looks like vocalist J.D. Cronise of The Sword agrees with me. (more…)

CD Review: THE SWORD Apocryphon

swordcover2012

Everyone rides that Sword jock nowadays – it's worn, broken in and smells pleasantly of oiled leather – but let's pause a moment to reflect upon the band's auspicious yet at one time controversial ascent. (more…)

A/V Roundup: GWAR Covers Kansas, New music from SYLOSIS, THE SWORD, ANAAL NATHRAKH, ENCRUST, HOLY GRAIL, MUTINY WITHIN

We don't do an A/V Roundup for a few days, and then it happens, an explosion of new music. Today we have a killer new live performance from GWAR, as well as new tunes from Sylosis, The Sword, Anaal Nathrakh, Encrust, Holy Grail and Mutiny Within. Let's get it rolling…

GWAR have made their first public appearance with new guitarist Pustulus Maximus. Check out the band covering Kansas's "Carry On Wayward Son" over at AV Club. The band really punked up the tune. (more…)

THE SWORD Announce US Tour with GYPSYHAWK, EAGLE CLAW and AMERICAN SHARKS

407975_10150490089175942_693636930_n

The Sword have been doing throwback metal since before it was cool again, and now they seem to be taking a slew of bands from the new wave of retro (buh?!) out on the road for a US tour. The band will be out supporting their upcoming release Apocryphon, which hits stores on October 22nd. Out on the road with them will be Gypsyhawk as direct support and then alternating openers Eagle Claw (10/29-11/24), and American Sharks (12/02-12/18). Why do I feel like I'm writing about Animal Planet and not tour dates? All kidding aside, here is the routing: (more…)

THE SWORD Hitting The Studio At The End Of The Month!

thesword

Fuck yes! Right after their appearance at Metallica's "Orion Music & More Festival" on June 23, The Sword will be hitting the studio two days later to work on their next album, titled Apocryphon. Produced by J. Robbins (Clutch), this will be the first album released on their new label Razor & Tie, and has been given an early fall release later this year. If that isn't awesome enough, the cover art will be done by J.H. Williams III, who did the art for the Batwoman and Promethea comic books. A worldwide tour, in support of Apocryphon, will begin in October, so we'll be sure to post the tour dates when we get them!

METALLICA's Orion Music & More Festival Announces Lineup For Metal Stage

YouTube Preview Image

One of the big critiques of Metallica when they announced this two day festival in Atlantic City, happening June 23rd and 24th, was that there was not enough metal on the event. The Four Horsemen have heeded your call. Today, they announced that the Orion Music and More festival will have an additional stage for metal and punk bands called the Damage Inc. stage, and the lineup for this stage is surprisingly kinda awesome: (more…)

METALLICA Announce "Orion Music + More" Festival

Orion Music and More

I guess they're not announcing their 3D movie after all. After all the hype has settled, Metallica will be headlining a two day festival in Atlantic City on June 23 & 24. It's happening at Bader Field. There will be 22 artists in addition to Metallica headlining both nights. Metallica promises to play The Black Album in full one of the nights, the first time this is happening on US soil. During the live announcement, the band also announced they would be playing Ride The Lightning in full. The range of bands is pretty interesting, in that it's not all metal bands, and yet there are some really obscure bands in the mix, all hand picked by the band. Here is the lineup: (more…)
