Stream The New ZOZOBRA Album, Savage Masters

zozobra-savagemasters

Zozobra fucking rules. The band consists of members of Cave In, and two of the dudes are in Old Man Gloom so that should give you a sense of what the band sounds like, post-hardcore awesomeness. Their new album, Savage Masters comes out April 2nd via Brutal Panda Records, and hearing the full stream just now has me pumped. This album crushes! Take a listen: (more…)

CD Review: OLD MAN GLOOM – No

OMG_NO_2LP_jacket

A few months ago, there was complete uproar in the city of Boston with rumors of Old Man Gloom returning to grace us not only with a new album, but a precious few live appearances. These shows were, of course, packed and/or sold out. As a Greater Boston resident, myself, I’m none too pleased that I missed out on an opportunity to see OMG live – an especially rare occurrence. At these shows, too, were the only available pre-release copies of their long awaited follow-up to Christmas, released in 2004, No.  (more…)

Is Sumerian putting out a covers album? Nevertheless, the trend of their bands covering nu-metal tracks continues with Born of Osiris covering "Science" by SOAD, one of my favorite bands of all time. Can't say I'm digging the cover. You can also check out Stray From The Path covering Rage Against The Machine's "Bulls on Parade" (more…)

When the Old Man Gloom news rains, it pours. We got really excited a few weeks ago that OMG was touring, then, a few days ago, we learned they finished a new album! So OLD MAN GLOOM Is Releasing New Music After All

Old Man Gloom

Those lying mother fuckers! Last year, mega-producer and Converge guitarist, Kurt Ballou let it slip that Old Man Gloom would be entering his Godcity studios to record a new album. I got really excited. Then, Kurt was all like syyyykkkeee!!! and I was really bummed. But, turns out it's a double-sykkkeee because the band DID actually record a new album, they just wanted to keep it under wraps because they wouldn't be able to tour to promote it until May, which heyyy, they did announce tour dates, so it totally makes sense. Wow, the grammar in this post is awful, but that's just how excited I am at the potential of more Old Man Gloom. Here's a teaser the band's label, Hydra Head, posted on their Facebook page: (more…)

Oh Hell Yes! OLD MAN GLOOM Announce String Of Shows

Old Man Gloom

Remember last year when Kurt Ballou teased us saying that Old Man Gloom was recording a new record? Then, turns out they weren't. Then, there was an easter egg promising some OMG for May of 2012. Well, since May is just around the corner, things are starting to make sense. Maybe the promise was not for a new album, but a string of Old Man Gloom tour dates? Or, could it be both? Just to get everyone to speed, Old Man Gloom is an all-star sludge/doom band featuring Aaron Turner of ISIS, Nate Newton of Converge/Doomriders, Caleb Scofield ofCave In and Santos Montano of Zozobra. Even if there is no new music, you KNOW I am going to be front and center checking the live shows out. So far only 5 shows have been announced, all on the east coast. If we hear of more, you will know about it, but here is the routing so far:  (more…)

OLD MAN GLOOM Re-Releases Coming

Old-Man-Gloom-Christmas-Eve-1-+-2

I got really excited when Kurt Ballou said a new Old Man Gloom record is coming, then really sad when it became a joke, and then possibly excited again when teased. This is of course the band that features Converge's Nate Newton and Aaron Turner of ISIS amongst it's ranks. But, it's been months and there has been nothing! No news. The only mention of Old Man Gloom is in the above advert for Hydra Head Records. As you can see, it looks like we're getting a re-issue of the band's release Christmas Eve I & II + 6 , with the addition of a live set from NY. Could this just be the appetizer with new stuff coming in 2012? I sure hope so!

Rumors

OLD MAN GLOOM, Please Stop Teasing Me

Old Man Gloom tease

Earlier this year, Kurt Ballou announced he is beginning work on producing a new album from Old Man Gloom, a band that features his Converge bandmate Nate Newton and Aaron Turner of ISIS amongst others. Turns out it was his version of a late April Fool's joke. Or was it? An image (possibly photoshopped) of a Hydra Head ad, which features a book spine that says "OMG 5 2012", whilst a robed Nate Newton stands not too far away. The trouble is, I have found two versions of this image: one with the text on a book, an one without. Which one is the real copy? Is this a clever Hydra Head marketing ploy or just some asshole who photoshopped this to get me excited. Either way, please stop playing with my emotions and tell me what I want to hear: a new Old Man Gloom record is on the way!

Damn It, OLD MAN GLOOM Is NOT Recording A New Record

OLD MAN GLOOM

I got really excited about new Old Man Gloom music on Wednesday, but turns out it was all a lie! Kurt Ballou, the man who was set to produce the record and originally hinted at new music from the band coming posted a retraction on his Facebook yesterday first saying "whoops. nevermind about Old Man Gloom. they forgot to write songs, so they've cancelled" then later admitting the whole thing was his "belated little April Fools joke." SO FUNNY I FORGOT TO LAUGH! I guess we will never see new Gloom. I leave you with one final joke Kurt posted in the comment thread on this FB post: (more…)

New OLD MAN GLOOM Is On The Way!

Old Man Gloom

I've talked about Old Man Gloom on this site before. The all star group featuring Aaron Turner of ISIS, Nate Newton of Converge/Doomriders, Caleb Scofield of Cave In and Santos Montano of Zozobra. These guys are all about creating a monstrous wall of noise and then crushing it. Mega-producer Kurt Ballou recently posted a message on his Facebook page saying that "Old Man Gloom is next." To this I say OH. HELL. FUCKING. YES! I wish I could just go to the studio and watch them do this. I want to hear it immediately. For now, I'll just resort to listening to their back catalog. If you're not familiar with the band, here is the track "Christmas Eve" YouTube Preview Image

Metal Stoner Jams To Safely Get You Through 4/20

Woah man! 4/20 just kind of sneaked up on us here at Metal Injection. That's because we treat every day like it's 4/20. We do not discriminate. Let's start with Meshuggah's "Suffer In Truth" conveniently at a running time of 4:20 (at least the album version)
