KING DIAMOND Recounts His Triple-Bypass Heart Surgery
We were incredibly bummed when we heard the news last year that King Diamond had to undergo triple-bypass heart surgery. Thankfully, he came out of it just fine and has even suggested some touring later this year.
In a new in-depth interview with MetalSucks, the King recalls his surgery, and it's not fun. Here's an excerpt:

Frank's Favorite Records of 1987
Happy 2013 Metal Injection Junkies! 2012 proved to be a huge year for Metal Injection and even some of us personally, but in order to see any kind of growth, you sometimes have to look to the past to notice where you stand today.
Last year I created a retrospective series called On The Record that looked back on the changes in metal over the last 10 years. Now that we've celebrated the end of 2012 with our usual year-end round up lists, I thought it might be fun to step back even further in time and see just how far we've come in 25 years. In this post I'll be taking a look at the year 1987! (more…)

Exploring 25 Heavy Metal Stage Name Origins
I've always found the practice of naming such a strange and fascinating concept. Today more than ever we put such a huge importance on finding the right name for things be it a nick name, stage name, band name, or even a profile user name. I'm sure at some point in your life you've even thought about changing your own birth name to something cooler.
I started wondering about all the names in metal history we've come to know and love, who they started out as, and more importantly how their new names came to be. After several nights of research I was legitimately shocked to learn how many names in metal aren't birth names at all, this list barely even scratches the surface. But for the sake of keeping things interesting, I included only the names that had a back story I can write about.
In this piece, we will reveal the real identies of, and navigate the origins of Alice Cooper, King Diamond, Avengened Sevenfold, Korn, Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, KISS, Nergal of Behemoth, Cronos of Venom and many more. (more…)

KING DIAMOND Announced For Bloodstock UK and Tuska Open Air
The return of King Diamond is imminent. The King promised touring in 2013, and he's keeping his promise. So far, two dates have surfaced for the King… the Tuska Open Air festival in Finland on June 28th and Bloodstock UK on August 9th. It's safe to say that the King will most likely be spending the summer on the European metal festival circuit. But what does that mean for US fans? (more…)

Scientist Names 420 Million Year Old Fossil After KING DIAMOND
It seems that there are some scientists out there that are really passionate about metal, like the dudes in charge of the Mars rover and decided to blast Anthrax to wake it up. They're not the only ones. Dr. Mats E. Eriksson is the Associate Professor of Paleontology in the Department of Geology at Lund University located in Lund, Sweden. Eriksson is also a devout metalhead. He likes naming fossils he discovers after metal gods. For example, a 428 million year old jaw of an extinct, marine polychaete annelid worm was named after the Motorhead bassist Lemmy Kilmister, being referred to as the Kalloprion Kilmisteri. For his latest discovery (pictured), he decided to name it after the King himself, King Diamond. Here is what Dr. Eriksson told BraveWords about the discovery: (more…)

You Have To See This 1987 Interview with KING DIAMOND On The Joe Franklin Show
If you've listened to the Livecast, you know of our love of the Joe Franklin Show, the long-running talk show by the perennial New York Jew. So imagine my elation when I found the above clip featuring an interview with King Diamond in 1987, arguably at the peak of his popularity. The King appears out of makeup and Joe appears stunned at his presence. The whole interview is awkward gold. You absolutely must stick around to the point where they play some King Diamond and the film crew really step it up with a shot of the King…fade to ANOTHER shot of the King sitting still, cut to another shot of the King. This made my day, I hope it makes yours!

KING DIAMOND Piñata Is The GREATEST THING EVER!!
Our Bro-Diamonds at MetalSucks just posted these photos of an amazing King Diamond piñata some fans of the King made. We've all eagerly been anticipating the King's return to the states but since we're still waiting on any dates to be announced, this chuckle is a decent hold-over. Here is a close up of the piñata: (more…)

The 39 Best Worst Metal Tattoos In History
There is no doubt that band tattoos are the ultimate sign of appreciation and loyalty for your favorite artists, it's like a band T-shirt you can't get off. I also have no doubt that metal heads are some of the most passionate group of music enthusiasts out there, so it came as no surprise that I could find thousands of band tats out there ranging from a tiny mark to a full sleeve. The only problem with this awesome combination is tattoo artists in the world are much like the bands themselves, some are good, some are simply amazing, and others… well here is a list of some of the others guys. All Hail The King! KING DIAMOND Live Footage From Return
Hear ye! Hear ye! The king has return. Your grace, King Diamond, performed over the weekend at the Sweden Rock Festival, and to say he was back in full form is an understatement. The King reclaimed his throne and all his being were happy. Sorry, I think I've just been watching too much Game of Thrones, but in all seriousness, it's absolutely heartwarming (pun intended) to watch Diamond get back on stage after recovering from triple bypass heart surgery. Hopefully, we'll see the King in the States soon. Here is a collection of videos from his performance this weekend: (more…)

Is KING DIAMOND Getting Ready To Go Back On The Road?
When we reported last year that King Diamond had to undergo triple bypass heart surgery, things were not looking good for the King. And we were bummed, because nobody puts on a show like King F'N Diamond. Now my buddies in MetalSucks are reporting that we can expect His Majesty on the road sooner, rather than later. (more…)

10 reasons to go to MARYLAND DEATHFEST
I admit it. I'm getting a little old. I keep my hair short, the volume down and I've secretly started listening to music where people sing. I especially don't go to fests anymore. Why? I don't like standing in one place for 8 hours. Wears on the knees. But come May 26, I'm gonna dust off my camo-shorts, let my hair down and descend once again into that sweet smelling pit of sweaty triceps. I've just won the Superbowl, and I'm going to the Maryland Deathfest!

KING DIAMOND Is Gonna Make It
When we last checked in with the King in December, he had just underwent triple bypass heart surgery. Well, looks like things are looking up for the King, as his wife revealed he just completed a cardiac rehabilitation program. The King has given up smoking, is on a healthy diet and is working out. Damn, sounds like he's in better shape than I am. Here is the full update: (more…)
