HEAVY MTL Lineup Gives You A Good Hint As To Which Bands Are Touring This Summer
Heavy MTL is the biggest metal festival to hit Canada. While in previous years, it was accompanied by a Toronto version of the festival, this year, it's all Heavy MTL… happening August 10 and 11 at Parc Jean-Drapeau in Montreal, Canada.
The lineup is usually a good indication of which bands will be on tour this summer, as it's very rare for a band to just book this festival. So let's take a look at who's touring this summer, via the fest's just announced lineup: (more…)

Drew Zalucky's 25 Best of 2012 List
2012 will not see end of the world, or extreme music for that matter. However, if this was the end of Metal and Hardcore as we know it, the year 2012 would make quite a grand finale. So many great records came out this year that I decided to stretch this article to a more obnoxious comprehensive list of 25. If it weren’t for the amazing power of Spotify, I don’t know how I would have kept up. As with my list last year, this list is unordered, as agonizing over competing slots for #9 and #10 would miss the point of the exercise. The point being: out of all the music I heard this year, the records listed below represent what I enjoyed the most. I hope some readers get some benefit from seeing this list and check out some records they may have missed, or that others will have some to name that I may have overlooked myself.
By the way, if you have Spotify you should check out my Best of 2012 Playlist, or the shorter 2012 Sampler! (more…)

Album Review: CRYPTOPSY – Cryptopsy
Cryptopsy's reputation has been in a constant state of flux over the last 4 to 5 years and since the dust only recently has settled from the controversy of the band's last album, The Unspoken King, they have a lot of damage control to do. Fans might hope for a call back to the golden days of vocalist Lord Worm and the band's first 2 albums Blasphemy Made Flesh and the classic None So Vile, perhaps something like the band's more recent output sans the album that was already mentioned. So what do we get with this comeback album that the band has self-released? For one of the few things in Montreal that has a surefire answer that isn't the NHL lockout; Cryptopsy has actually accomplished something of merit.

The New CRYPTOPSY Song Is SuperBrootalz
Consider me impressed. After the initial two songs which I highly favored, and now this new track that just appeared on Decibel's website, I am now fully excited for the new Cryptopsy album. The track, "The Golden Square Mile", is prototypical-Cryptopsy. It's so great hearing Flo Mournier legitimately raping his drumkit again. Check the song out and see for yourself. Cryptopsy's self-titled new album is self-released on September 14th through Bandcamp.

These New CRYPTOPSY Songs Are Really Brutal
Have you heard these two new songs from the new Cryptopsy album? Sure, their last album, The Unspoken King was virtually unlistenable, but these new songs? It's as if the band went back in time 10 years ago when they were one of the most crushing bands out there. Check them out: (more…)
