SCION ROCK FEST 2013 Announces Initial Lineup

ScionRockFest2013

Scion Rock Fest is basically the best thing ever. While people might complain about Scion putting their corporate paws into the metal world, there is no denying how polite and caring those paws are. I will never forget my experience at the inaugral Rock Fest, and with the lineup for this year just announced, I may have to get down to Memphis this June to see this thing. I mean, take a look at these bands: (more…)

Show Recap

Bloodstock 2012 Recap

Watain25

Before you read the recap, browse the massive photo gallery from Bloodstock

This being my third Bloodstock in a row, it felt much more like a yearly traditional visit with an old friend than it did “work”. Boasting what was described by many as being their “best line-up yet” and also the best weather I’d ever seen in this little corner of Derby, BOA 2012 was a beautiful experience, without a doubt.

Regardless of the fact that Bloodstock is steadily growing in attendance and might, it is one of the few festivals that still feels “intimate” – like you’re among family. (Not the dysfunctional, embarrassing, “bat shit insane family” that you consistently try to avoid every holiday season, but the GOOD kind of “family”.) The ones you have obscene amounts of fun with, and can’t wait to see every summer.  (more…)

HIGH ON FIRE Announce Fall 2012 Tour With GOATWHORE, PRIMATE

HighOnFiretour2012

High On Fire is heading back on the road. The band's last national tour, as part of Mayhem Fest, had to be cancelled as frontman Matt Pike decided he needed to clean up his act and head into rehab. Pike is looking good nowadays, and is ready to hit the road again. The band has lined up a pretty stellar tour with Goatwhore, Primate and Lo-Pain. Primate, of course, features Mastodon's Bill Kelliher and Kevin Sharp of Brutal Truth in what I believe, is their first national tour. As if that wasn't sweet enough, Corrosion of Conformity are hopping in for the last three dates of the tour. The trek kicks off November 15 in Austin, TX and will run through December 22. Here is the announced routing: (more…)

Interviews

Interviewing GAZA; Dirty Music, Nice Dudebros!

GAZA 2012

Gaza are pissed off. I mean, dangerously pissed off. They’re one of the few bands in the extreme music today that actually lives up to such classification, whether it’s the blistering time signature changes on I Don’t Care Where I Go When I Die or the monolithic funeral dirges at the start of He Is Never Coming Back. The bottom line is, Gaza are scary as hell, filled with vitriol towards 95% of modern society, and four of the nicest guys I’ve had the opportunity to chat with. I met with Gaza after their almost unpleasantly loud set in Charlotte, North Carolina to chat with them about what it’s like to be a black sheep, North Carolina’s new marriage amendment, who they’d record a split with, and the band’s undying love for Metallica. More below: (more…)

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY Announce June 2012 Tour with TORCHE, BLACK TUSK, GAZA

Corrosion of Conformity Torch GAZA

Corrosion of Conformity are serious about getting back on the road. They have a slew of dates booked this month with Torche and Valient Thorr and now they've went ahead and announced a tour in June as well. They will be taking out Torche once more, as well as Black Cobra and the mighty GAZA. This sounds like quite the killer package of down tuned heavyness, so it gets the MI stoner seal of approval. Here are the dates: (more…)
