BLOODBATH Have A New "Legendary" Vocalist
Anders Nystrom is a man many people know for his work in the legendary Swedish metal band Katatonia. He is also known by many people for his work in the legendary supergroup, Bloodbath. Personally, I am not a fan of Katatonia so when I stumbled upon this interview he did for Metal Insider; I almost skipped right over it…until I realized the interview jumps into updates and news about Bloodbath. Mikael Åkerfeldt Quits BLOODBATH
Mikael Åkerfeldt is basically done screaming now, whether he wants to admit that or not. He announced yesterday that he was leaving Bloodbath, the supergroup he fronted with Opeth and Katatonia members since 1998. Åkerfeldt told Loudwire that the recent Bloodbath shows had been fun, but he really didn't feel the need to participate in the project any longer: (more…)

OPETH & KATATONIA Played BLOODBATH Songs On Last Night of Tour
Baltimore, MD, you lucky motherfuckers! The Opeth/Katatonia tour was winding down at the Ram's Head, at what was the final stop of the tour on Tuesday, November 2nd and as a special treat for the fans in attendance, and for shits and giggles, the members of both of those bands that comprise the amazing death metal side project Bloodbath came out for a two song encore, concluding with an incredible rendition of their hit, "Eaten." To say I am incredibly jealous that I didn't get to see this at the NY stop is an understatement. We just got a lot of pretty Opeth songs, but I really wanted some nasty Bloodbath tracks. Now if you excuse me, I have to go listen to all of Bloodbath's discography.

OPETH To Tour This Fall With KATATONIA
There has been a lot of news from the Opeth camp lately. Most recently, we learned that their album is coming out in September, and we got a peak at their trippy new cover. Naturally, when a new album comes out, a band is expected to tour, and Opeth will do just that this Fall, with their friends in Katatonia providing direct support. The first thing I thought when I saw this was "Why don't they have Bloodbath open the shows? How crazy would that be?" Bloodbath is of course, the death metal side project whose members consist exclusively of Opeth and Katatonia members. I can dream can't I? Anyway, here is the first round of scheduled dates: (more…)

Schizophrenic thoughts on the new AUTOPSY song
Cali Death Metal pioneers, Autopsy, have begun streaming a new song from their forthcoming comback effort, Macabre Eternal, over here at Brooklyn Vegan. The song is called "Always Almost Dead," and after one listen, I'm happy to report that it is not dubstep. (more…)

Passover ist Krieg: Your Holiday Playlist
Monday night's Passover Seder got me thinking: It may not be fashionably metal to be down with the G-O-D, but any biblical historian, or anyone who's read R. Crumb's shockingly graphic take on the Book of Genesis, knows that before Paul and co. repackaged Hizzoner into a lovey-dovey marshmallow, the Lord was one twisted motherf*cker. Picking on poor Job, tricking his best friend into almost killing his own son ("LOL, Abraham! You should see your face dude…") or drowning everyone on the planet… It kinda makes a one-and-done smack from Thor's hammer seem downright merciful.
Then there's Passover.

BLOODBATH posts new song online from The Fathomless Mastery
Stockholm, Sweden's brilliant death metal supergroup BLOODBATH has just posted the brand new song "Ieosos" from their forthcoming aptly titled third full-length album The Fathomless Mastery to their Myspace and their mini-site for the album, due for European release on October 6th and North American release on October 28th. For those not familiar with this incredible group and their crushing barrage of hateful brutality, the band consists of OPETH mainman Mikael Åkerfeld on vocals, OPETH drummer Martin "Axe" Axenrot, KATATONIA guitarist Anders "Blakkheim" Nyström, KATATONIA vocalist Jonas Renkse on bass, and Per "Sodomizer" Eriksson of 21 LUCIFERS and GENOCRUSH FEROX on guitar. For those of you only familiar with these guys recent work in the aforementioned bands, you might want to beware – BLOODBATH is as fucking brutal as death metal can get, period. Counting the songs "Mock the Cross" and "Slaughtering the Will to Live" that have previously been posted, "Ieosos" is the third song from the new album that has made it to the web before the release. The release date is soon approaching, so click the links below to see what awaits you.
