Quick Review: OMNIPOTENT HYSTERIA Abattoir of Slain Deities

With song names in the vein of "Cocooned Abomination", and "Ubiquitous Subversion", you can estimate the type of metal your committing yourself too. From the United Kingdom, Omnipotent Hysteria is delivering their first full-length album entitled Abattoir of Slain Deities. With just a couple EP's and a demo in their short discography, New Standard Elite found these bone grinders, and are allowing the band's chaotic slams and blistering blasts to descend upon America in a west coast tour this summer.

Much can be said to the "meh" quality of most bands in one of the most mature, yet juvenile sub-genre in metal, so it's always refreshing to find some un-charred and freshly hacked bone nubs to nibble on and digest. Omnipotent Hysteria may not be the ground breaking or defining band…yet… but all the ingredients to a cannibalistic feast are present, so for a freshman release Abattoir of Slain Deities gets the job done.

One accomplishment that grabbed my attention quickly happened to be one of the better slams I have heard this year. It lies within "Obnubilated", and although most of the slamming sections on the album are obvious, they are chunky and sometimes carry their own off beat rhythm. The clean production highlights the technical transitions and intricate guitar riffs. When the shred is in full movement, there is not a stationary moment or pause for these always in transition riffs that twist and snap until the beast of the song is released.

Another refreshing attribute that enhances this human stew of marrow is the hint of old school death metal that is faintly beating through the album. What's masked by the clean recording, is not hidden in full. Reminiscent riff structures take me immediately to Cannibal Corpse in the track "Abattoir of Slain Deities", and the Indonesian sounding snare ping ties the 2016 clean produced album together, giving nod and acknowledgement to their brutal death metal roots.

Abattoir of Slain Deities is an excellent start and encouraging release for this relatively new band. With the strong attributes mentioned above, it's obvious these talented musicians have a good knowledge of writing, and this excites me for future releases as the band continues to focus their sound and find their identity.

Score: 7/10
