Wolves In the Throne Room, the Pacific-Northwest-based Black Metal giants, have shared some exciting news with the world this week. The group in currently in the process of reissuing their 2005 debut album, Diadem of 12 Stars. The album is widely viewed as a key album in re-imagining the atmosphere surrounding the Black Metal genre. Diadem… shook the icy veil in favor of a rain coat and umbrella. This Cascadian sound could have been construed as iconoclastic, going against the harsh norms established by Black Metal's Norwegian ancestry. However, WITTR took the sounds of the genre's prior generation like Ulver and Emporer and ran them headlong into the soundscapes of Neurosis, Swans, and early My Dying Bride. This fusion resulted in much praise for the band.
Diadem of 12 Stars, an essential listen here at Metal Injection, is a pivotal album in the landscape of United States Black Metal and was incredibly difficult to snag a physical copy of when it was originally released over a decade ago.
