Update 4:08pm EST: Veil of Maya released a statement confirming Brandon's departure:

“VEIL OF MAYA has parted ways with vocalist Brandon Butler.

Currently we are hard at work on our new studio album and while the music is almost finished, the hunt for a new vocalist is now on.

We are very excited with how well this album is turning out and cannot wait to release it soon on Sumerian Records. We know that both our long-time AND new fans will be calling THIS their favorite Veil of Maya album of all time.

We want to wish Brandon good luck with anything and everything that he does in the future and thank him for being a part of the band.”

Original story as follows…

Here's a weird development. MetalSucks points out that Veil of Maya frontman Brandon Butler recently updated his personal Facebook page saying he "left" the band.

Butler's profile also shows that he's taken a new job at Cascade West Coatings, a painting contracting company outside of Seattle. The final hmm is that Butler cut his long flowing locks a week ago:

Certainly, if it was just one of these things, it wouldn't be a big deal. Maybe as he was adding his new job, Facebook accidently assumed he was done with his old one? But, also maybe he quit and relocated to Washington, since the band is based in Chicago. Butler is not the band's founding vocalist, but he has been with the band during their peak of success. Veil of Maya have been working on new material for a few years now. Will they have to re-record all the vocal parts with a new frontman?

We have reached out to representatives from their label and other band members but haven't heard back as of this writing.
