New EXODUS Album To Feature Kirk Hammett Guest Solo

It's no secret that Metallica's Kirk Hammett was originally a guitarist for fellow thrash metal legends, Exodus. As some of you more well-read types may know, Kirk has joined his old buddies on stage on numerous occasions to rip through some of the old classics.

But as Guitar World reports, Kirk's role in Exodus will no longer be confined to the nostalgic reunion performance:

"I play a guitar solo on the new Exodus album,"

"It felt really casual, really cool — just like it did back in 1980 when we were all just hanging out back in the day,"…Other than the Exodus demo that's been heard by a lot of people, it's the only time I ever recorded with Exodus. It was a huge thing for me."

Wow!

It's pretty cool of Kirk to lay down some guitar work for the band, as his place in their history has until now been confined to "our old guitarist who left for Metallica." (Imagine how the guys in Trauma felt about Cliff, ouch!) Anyway, Kirk goes on to give some more details about the collaboration on the song, "Salt the Wound" (hah! remember the deathcore band with that name?):

"I play a pretty cool solo, and then Gary [Holt] comes in and plays another solo, and you know what? I listened to that I thought, 'Wow, it's 1982 all over again and here we are, Gary and I are trying to cut each other's heads off with our guitar solos.' Nothing has changed much in the last 30 years. I love it. I love those guys."

Sounds like it'll be a pretty nasty track! We'll have to look out for it once the new album is finished!
