Lars Ulrich Jokes About Taking Drum Lessons & St. Anger Winning A Grammy "Just Sounds Wrong"

"Since I write the set list, reminder: Don’t put 'One' on tomorrow’s set list."

"Since I write the set list, reminder: Don’t put 'One' on tomorrow’s set list."

Lars Ulrich seems like a good dude. He's very aware of what people think about him as a drummer, and he doesn't seem like he really gives a shit about what they say. I'm sure raking in the paychecks he rakes in helps as well, but his interview with Entertainment Weekly still showcases Ulrich's sense of humor.

Lars was asked where his minds drifts off to on stage whilst in the middle of a drum solo, and his response is pretty much perfect.

“I should have taken lessons. I hope the sound man has turned this up so loud that the volume is masking my inability. Every late great drummer is currently turning over in his grave.” And then the last one is: “Since I write the set list, reminder: Don’t put ‘One’ on tomorrow’s set list.”

Lars also says he pretty much has no idea how Metallica won a Grammy for St. Anger, saying "Winning a Grammy for St. Anger just sounds wrong," and shares his favorite joke about the totally awesome snare drum sound on the album.

"There were so many that I can’t remember, but the one that I generally say was right there with the best of them, which was that I forgot to take the snare out of the cardboard box that it came in."

So there you have it. Lars Ulrich doesn't care.
