BLACK SABBATH Just Announced They're Moving On Without Bill Ward

BillWardSabbath

What…the…fuck…is going on…with Black Sabbath? Yesterday, drummer Bill Ward took to the internet to state he is not pleased with how negotiations are going with Sabbath and cannot continue until he gets his fair due. Most assumed this is just a hiccup, and everybody wanted to get this resolved so they could move on. Nope! Sabbath just posted this statement saying they're moving on with or without Ward:

We were saddened to hear yesterday via Facebook that Bill declined publicly to participate in our current Black Sabbath plans…we have no choice but to continue recording without him although our door is always open… We are still in the UK with Tony. Writing and recording the new album and on a roll… See you at Download!!!

- Tony, Ozzy and Geezer

This is the shittiest of shitty news, it's not a Black Sabbath reunion without Ward. But basically, they're calling Ward's bluff and it's up to him to now retaliate. DAMN IT YOU GUYS. CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG? [via Black Sabbath's Facebook]

Calling his bluff is exactly what's going on. They make it sound like they based their decision entirely off an intentional misreading of Ward's Facebook post – he didn't out and out "decline" to participate – so this seems to me like they're trying to give Ward a taste of his own medicine… "ok, we can air our side of the argument out in public too if that's what you want".

Bill Ward may or may not end up back in Sabbath but negotiations aren't over. No way anything with this huge a financial potential gets pissed away just because neither side wants to pick up the phone.

Considering how the same sort of thing happened the first time Sabbath reunited, it may be best to remain optimistic here. I can't imagine that they'd be able to have a drummer that matches up to Ward in terms of interaction and how the band gels with each other.
