If you've been watching the news lately, you may have heard about the riots happening in Baltimore as a result of the death of Freddie Gray, a young black man who died of a spinal injury while under police custody. The police aren't releasing the cause of death and this has led to unrest in Baltimore. Some protests have escalated into riots and the media is offering round-the-clock coverage of all the nastier aspects of the rioting.

But what does this have to do with metalheads? Well, one of the biggest US festivals for metal is less than a month away and fans planning on heading down to Baltimore are concerned about their safety for Maryland Deathfest, or if the fest is even happening at all.

The hysteria has reached such a boiling point that the festival organizers had to publicly release a statement assuring fest-goers that MDF will happen according to plan:

MDF XIII will happen according to plan. Don't believe any rumors.

Elsewhere on their page, the organizers commented that the rioting is not happening anywhere near the fest grounds:

Small pockets of protests nowhere near anywhere MDF is taking place, the media blowing it out of proportion, and over 3 weeks for it to simmer down. Need anything else?

So if you were concerned, you don't have much reason to be. For more info on the fest visit MarylandDeathfest.com.
