UPDATED: We posted the behind the scenes clip from this week after the jump…
We return with a bang after being off the air last week. This week we seek guns at WalMart, Jenny sings some John Cougar Mellencamp, we discuss what type of awards would be given out if we had an award show for our podcast, awkward fan interactions, a caller who claims he was not from Cocoa, Flordia, parental permission and doody talk. Overall, many laughs were had. Here is this week's playlist:
DECAPITATED – Nihility
VENOM – Countess Bathory
JAVELINA – Towers of Silence
SEPULTURA – Refuse/Resist
W.A.S.P. – The Real Me
SKELETONWITCH – Repulsive Salvation
By the way, here is a little video from last week. We shot it last Wednesday right as we got out of the Neil Hamburger show. See the type of people who attended this show with us: (more…)

We know we say new episodes every week, but it's been a while since we took a week off, plus America's funnyman, and one of our heroes, Neil F'N Hamburger is doing a rare performance in the greater NY area, and we just had to go. So, we decided this will be the first Wednesday we do not do a podcast since moving to a new day. Hey, give us a break, alright?
But don't worry, we compiled a mixtape of a bunch of special guest call-ins that have happened in recent weeks including phone calls from Jonny Davy of JOB FOR A COWBOY, Snake Sabolnick of A LIFE ONCE LOST, Ian Christe of Bazillion Points Books and SiriusXM Liquid Metal, Tim Lambesis of AS I LAY DYING/AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE, Greg Weeks of THE RED CHORD, Paul Waggoner of BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME and Travis Ryan of CATTLE DECAPITATION playing our gameshow Death or No Death.
Also, Sid is bringing his Flip camera tonight so he can show you how much fun we're having not doing the Livecast. That clip should be up a little later in the week.
Feel free to to post in the comments why you think we suck for not doing the show tonight. We will be back with a new live episode next week!

Interviews
Posted on November 7th, 2009
Peanut butter and jelly. Movies and popcorn. Pummeling metal and praying for world peace. Some things just go together perfectly.
Welcome to the spectacle that is episode 49 of Issue Oriented. First, your fearless host talks to Burnt By The Sun vocalist (and Issue Oriented contributor) Michael Olender about good and evil, the perils of personal creativity, his band's new release Heart of Darkness and much, much more. It's a thought-provoking piece and we know you'll love it.
Then hear film maker Jonathan Kalafer discuss his new award-winning documentary, We Love You. This film documents an annual event called the Rainbow Gathering, which takes place at a different National Park each year. With up to 50,000 people in attendance, Rainbow Gatherings culminate with a prayer for peace taking place each 4th of July – even if Federal Agents shoot pepper spray at kids on July 3. Which Kalafer captured on film. We Love You recently won Best Documentary at the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival. Check out this interview – you'll be glad you did.

UPDATE: We have added this week's Behind the Scenes video after the jump

We had two very special guests on this edition of the METAL INJECTION LIVECAST, Greg Weeks of THE RED CHORD & Paul Waggonner of BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME. Greg calls early on and starts some beef with Paul, which Paul responds to later in the show. Also, when Paul comes on the air, we have a hurricane of callers, our most call-ins ever, asking deep questions about his hair cut and Cheetos. In all fairness, some dudes ask some good questions about guitars and the band. Also, we talk about Dave Ellefson's new career reading people's resumes, Geek2Geek and more! We also have a few calls from the Googler, including something in the final minutes of the show that may have been too far! Here is this week's playlist, mostly picked by 3D:
THE RED CHORD – The Ugliest Truth
ANTHRAX feat. PUBLIC ENEMY – Bring The Noise
SUICIDAL TENDENCIES – Trip At The Brain
ENTOMBED – Left Hand Path
BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME – Fossil Genera – A Feed From Cloud Mountain
Plus the comedic stylings of Bill Hicks and Kumail Nanjiani

A lot of longtime fans of Metal Injection comment about how they miss the episodic format we had when we first started. We've evolved to a much bigger site than just weekly episodes, but when we started the FiX it was to try to continue the format of those early episodes in terms of showcasing sweet music videos. Well, for this Halloween, since it is the most metal of all holidays we thought we'd do a Halloween special in the tradition of our zombie special and our slasher special. (Wow, I can't believe they were done so long ago). This year's Halloween special takes the Creep Show format of telling three separate tales focusing on Rob, Frank and Noa. Also, all three of them and Sid and 3D each picked a music video to air on the episode. Can you guess who picked what? It's not really that difficult.

Secrets were revealed on this edition of the Metal Injection Livecast. We start the podcast discussing Noa setting up a profile for Sid on a geeky dating site. That opens up a whole can of worms with the rest of the Livecast crew. Then, we discuss Dave Mustaine being a baby about METALLICA and end off the show as we always do, talking about porn and bodily functions. The conversation was so good we went 15 minutes past the two hour mark, because this stuff was too good to stop talking about. If you listened live, make sure to listen to the archive because you don't want to miss this. Here is this week's playlist:
CONVERGE – Cutter
AKIMBO – You Can Hear The Honey
HELLNATION – This Is Progress?

Epicast
Posted on October 23rd, 2009

For our second episode we look at another side of epicness. Prior to entering the studio we heard the call of the Northern Forests. Mounting our glorious steeds, we rode deep into the mountains of Santa Cruz until we came upon the Pagan Circle (no really, there is one). After slaughtering the dirty hippies within the surrounding area, we used their blood to channel the Gods of Old. Thus did Odin call down to us from Valhalla, commanding that we dedicate the next Epicast to him and the glory of Asgard with only the best Folk, Pagan and Viking Metal.
Hammer Horde – In The Name of Winter's Wrath – Under the Mighty Oath
Thyrfing – Själavrak
Einherjer – Burning Yggdrasil – Norwegian Native Art
Tyr – By The Sword in My Hand – By The Light of the Northern Star
Primordial – The Song of the Tomb
Suidakra – Shattering Swords – Crógacht
Alestorm – Pirate Song – Black Sails At Midnight
Korpiklaani – Let's Drink – Tervaskanto
Eluveitie – Gray Sublime Archon – Slaynia
Amon Amarth – Prediction of Warfare

Issue Oriented
Posted on October 8th, 2009
Is your iPod full of music from bands with swoopy hair and toothy publicity photos? Then you're probably not punk enough to handle The Kominas.
Based in Boston and NYC, this (cautiously) self-defined Punjabi punk band have become accidental media darlings thanks to their re-configuration of two seemingly incompatible cultural forms – punk rock and Islam. Muslim punk rockers? Well, sort of. And yes, it's as uncommon as it sounds.
In fact, the very first Islam-influenced punk bands existed only in a work of fiction – a novel called The Taqwacores by Michael Muhammed Knight. The Taqwacores may have been about an imaginary Muslim punk scene, but it rippled out into the real world, inspiring real-world kids to form real-world bands. The Kominas have been covered by CNN, MTV, Rolling Stone and various other mainstream outlets, but their story is often over-simplified, or botched all together.
Which is why, of course, you tune in to Issue Oriented. In one of the most compelling interviews we've ever featured, The Kominas and I talked about extremism, racism, Islam, punk, the media and so much more. Kominas members Shahjehan Khan and Basim Usmani, joined by Omar Waqar of Sarmust, lay it all out with a level of clarity that would certainly make most casual music fans at least a teensy bit uncomfortable. They also wonder aloud about when the day will come when people will be more interested in their music than their unusual story. Of course, those two things are inextricably linked, so it's complicated.
This episode of Issue Oriented is not to be missed! (more…)

This week, we had the pleasure of being joined by GOJIRA vocalist Joe Duplantier, who picks five of his favorite videos which include choice cuts from METALLICA, TOOL, SEPULTURA, DESPISED ICON and a pretty sweet video from French band TREPALIUM (a band I've never heard of before).

Also, we find out that Gojira will be on break for 2010 and will return with new music in 2011. Finally, we get some hints that there will definitely be a new CAVALERA CONSPIRACY cd in the future!
