The Definitive Answer to "Why Doesn't MTV Play Music Videos Anymore?"

MTV-logo

Growing up, MTV was the place to keep current about all the latest bands in any genre of music, not just pop. There were shows covering hip-hop and heavy metal, and overall, you could be seen as a music connoisseur, rocking NWA one hour and then Guns N Roses the next. It was a great era, but then, we got older and MTV moved on. Many went to ask "why doesn't MTV play music videos anymore?" One courageous "network executive" decided to shun the inquisitive and give his definitive answer so everybody can just shut up already and live their lives. Check this out:

So many things are eerily accurate in this video. The fact that the complaint as to why MTV doesn't play videos anymore is old enough to drive a car, is scary… and true. MTV hasn't played music videos for about 15 years now, and the people still complaining aren't even in their target demographic.

Plus, not to toot our own horn, but the internet is where you can get what you need in terms of music videos. I mean, Youtube has everything and then sites like ours try to wad through the insanity and bring you the niche that we care about, in our case, heavy metal. So don't be too upset that MTV doesn't play music videos, because we sure do.

sorry to interrupt in here- but Youtube doesn't have everything either, they only got what labels allow them to have- additonally, some countries (germany…srsly, GEMA, wtf) suffer from additional law stuff which makes labels pay to share their stuff- they won't play and so their stuff isn't visible there…i could give about 20 examples for bands which are not visible on youtube (although pretty known in their scenes) or are restricted due to taxes their labels don't want to pay where i could xount up about 30 more…

The guy in this video is tipping the asshat scale at 11 out of 10. Even if he was telling me I'd just won the lottery I'd still want to punch him.

She's only 20 and remembers watching music videos?

I admit I'm not in MTV's target demographic and I still ask that question, but my problem is they still call themselves MTV (Music Television). Change the name if you're going to change the product.

In Canada we have Much Music, which plays music videos all day. Doesn't America have something analogous to that?
