WOOAAARGH Records has long been one of my favorite underground labels, and not just because of their funny name. Their latest release, done in tandem with Sell Your Soul Records comes from death defying, earth shaking, extreme metal masters Bait.
Sunburst is a masterful little EP that will make you rock until you drop. There is something endlessly satisfying about what Bait has done here, with riffs upon riffs cascading into each other to make for a vicious 5 songs. Nihilistic and punishing, Bait is not a band who are here to fuck around, instead they will drown you in bloody human sacrifices and force you to embrace their forward thinking approach to black metal and hardcore.
The way that Bait balances almost meditative black metal vibes with more traditional hardcore ideas is impressive and hints at something that could be the future of both genres. Sunburst is the real deal, and if you can't embrace its inherently weird and otherworldly magic then you should leave the hall.
