BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME Have Officially Entered The Studio

BTBAM in the studio

The photo attached to this post is of drummer Blake Richardson and producer Jamie King tuning drums in the studio. Why are they tuning drums? Because Between The Buried and Me have officially kicked off recording sessions for their new album, the sequel to their EP, The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues. The working title is currently Parallax 2. But don't expect it to sound anything like Parallax. As we posted recently, bassist Dan Briggs described it as being "pretty fucking out there." It will be a cohesive concept record, in the vein of Colors. The band plan to be in the studio for about six weeks, and then kick off their run as one of the co-headliners of this year's Summer Slaughter tour. [via BTBAM's Facebook]

This Is Officially The Worst SLAYER Tattoo I Have Ever Seen

Slayer terrible tattoo

OH DEAR GOD, MAKE IT STOP! Slayer is known for their rabid fan base, but this GUY! I mean, come on. We've seen bad tattoos in the past, like this dude who can't spell "extreme", or the dude who got Unearth guitarist Ken Susi tat'd on his rear but none as terrible as this, in my opinion. I wonder if this guy asked himself if he could be tight with Jesus and still have tattoos? [via UGO]

Black Metal Bassist Is Now A Member of Greek Parliment; Might Be A Neo-Nazi

Black-Metal

You see that dude on the left? His name is Giorgos Germenis. Not only is he the bassist of Greek black metal band, Naer Mataron, but he will represent the Golden Dawn party from the Greater Athens district in Greek parliament. Here's the best part! The Golden Dawn party is known as one of the most extremely right political parties in Greece, with endless comparisons to the neo-nazis. The party has a hard stance against immigration, and a history of violence towards immigrants in Greece. Lovely. As for the band, I've never heard of them and neither have many Greek reporters. A local rock zine reporter was quoted in this story saying "[Giorgos] wasn't a well-known musician here in Greece. And to be honest, not many webzines were paying attention to NAER MATARON. It was just another black metal band, a mediocre one, so no one was really paying attention."

So the dude is now known as that racist black metal dude who happens to have a seat in Greek parliament. His plan to revitalize Greece? (more…)

Bill Ward Releases Statement Officially Confirming He Will Sit Out The Entirety Of the BLACK SABBATH Reunion

BillWard-BlackSabbath

Well, this is a bummer for Black Sabbath fans. After the excitement of the Black Sabbath reunion announcement, Bill Ward balked in hopes of getting what he called "a fair deal." Sabbath weren't budging and said they were moving on without him. There were talks between both parties, and it seems those talks are officially over. Bill Ward just released a statement saying he tried to make it work, but it's not happening and he's officially sitting out. Here is the statement in full:  (more…)

TESTAMENT Announce New Album & Release Date

Testament-Dark-Roots-of-the-Earth

I would recommend you check out this sick cover art for Testament's new album, Dark Roots of the Earth, but this shit is so small you can barely make out how epic it truly is (Updated with hi-res art courtesy of artist Eliran Kantor! Awesome!!). Still, it looks quite amazing. The band will release their new album in Europe on July 27th. There is no US release date set yet, but one would assume it would either be the Tuesday before July 27th, or more likely, the Tuesday after. While I have no doubts this record is killer, I do have a friend or two who happened to hear some tracks recently, and all reviews came back incredibly positive. I can't wait to hear some new Testament. For now, let's harkon back to a time when we sent the King of Metal, Dave Hill to a Testament show to talk to some of their fans. [via MetalSucks]

PERIPHERY Confirm Album Release Date, Announce New Guest Musicians

Periphery New Album ad

Yesterday, we showed you the ad for the new Periphery album that has surfaced in the latest issue of Revolver Magazine, which states their highly anticipated sophomore release will be coming out July 3rd.  Today, the band confirmed to Guitar World that the release date is indeed true. They also confirmed that besides a guest solo from John Petrucci of Dream Theater, there were two other guest soloists on the album: Wes Hauch, the new guitarist of The Faceless (who was recommended to the Faceless by Periphery) and Guthrie Govan of The Aristocrats. Not too familiar with The Aristocrats myself, but if they're good enough for Periphery, they're good enough for me. Periphery will be spending the summer on the Summer Slaughter tour with Cannibal Corpse, Between The Buried and Me and others. Get dates here.

If You Like MAYHEM and MORRISEY, Do I Have The Perfect Shirt For You!

morrissey2

Here at Metal Injection, we are big fans of shirt mash ups. Take for example, Larrydavhead, a Larry David/Motorhead mashup shirt that I proudly rock all the time. Then there was this awesome Misfits/Bill Hicks mashup, the not-as-awesome Bieber/Slayer mashup and now this killer mashup featuring Morrisey gone black metal, with his logo getting the Mayhem black metal treatment. Kudos to the artist at Sex & Death for the great artowrk. The shirt is now for sale for $15. [via The King of Metal]

In Case You Had Any Doubts About DETHKLOK's Dethalbum III Happening…

dethalbum iii

A few weeks ago, we learned that Metalocalypse co-creator Brendon Small is beginning work on the third album from the cartoon death metal band, Dethklok. With a huge summer tour just announced, teaming up with Lamb of God and Gojira, it seems like the perfect time to start working on a new album. That's why Brendon tweeted the photo attached to this post with the caption "Uh oh…. Look at this file I just created…" Clearly, this is the start of something big! [via Metal Insider]

PERIPHERY's Next Album Now Has A Release Date

Periphery new album July 3rd

The thing about magazines is, everything needs to be in at least two months before the issue comes out. That includes advertising. Turns out somebody at Sumerian Records jumped the gun on Periphery advertising. An advert for the band's forthcoming sophmore release can be seen in the newest Revolver, the Golden Gods special issue. While there is no title, we do know it will be out July 3rd and it will feature a guest solo from John Petrucci of Dream Theater. Turns out the band might be a little upset about this news surfacing…  (more…)

Your First Official Taste Of New Music From BARONESS

Click to see higher resolution image

I was incredibly excited when the press advance of Baroness's new double album, Yellow & Green arrived in my inbox last week. The problem? I haven't been able to get through the whole thing in one sitting. Clocking in at 85 minutes, that's a lot of time to commit to an album. I've listened to the first half, Yellow multiple times, but only made it through a few tracks on Green before having to move on to do something else. I will say this though: what I've heard, I like a lot. Baroness is no longer a metal band, they are a rock band and they write really catchy, solid rock songs. Today, Relapse posted the first single from the double-album, the second track on the album, and one of my favorites, "Take My Bones Away." Let's take a listen…  (more…)

Gossip Mustaine Mania

Dave Mustaine Apologized To James Hetfield For The Supergroup Fiasco

dave-and-james-metallica-live_

Sometimes it really surprises me how fast the metal news cycle works. On Thursday we posted a story about Metallica's James Hetfield being asked about all this talk of a supergroup being formed with him, Lars Ulrich and Megadeth's Dave Mustaine and David Ellefson. All the talk stemmed from Mustaine constantly in the media mentioning how much he wanted to do it, and Hetfield, while very positive about Mustaine, saying his heart is in the right place, said he had no interest in the "supergroup" and wished Mustaine would stop talking about it.

By the weekend, Dave Mustaine was already contacted and interviewed about Hetfield's quote. A saddened Mustaine said he apologized to Hetfield. I repeat…Dave Mustaine apologized! (more…)
