New AGALLOCH Music! New AGALLOCH Music!

The cover of Agalloch's Marrow Of The Spirit

Can you tell that I am excited? Earlier this year, after living under a rock, I discovered Agalloch and I was blown away. Frank almost had a laughing fit as he's been into that band for quite a wile now and had that same "OMG THESE GUYS ARE AMAZINGGGG" moment as me months ago. But these guys rule! They sound like a great European band and yet they are from Portland. Who knew?

Well, I was pretty excited to see that Stereogum has premiered the first new music from the band's upcoming release, Marrow Of The Spirit . The track sounds great, a nice mellow black metal track. I could sit here all day talking about it, but how about I just save you the trouble, and you just click the link and go listen. If you like bands like Opeth, you are guaranteed to love this! After you're done having your mind blown, leave a comment and let us know what you think.

In related Agalloch news, the band has tried to warn people about people falsly pirating the new album, saying they are fakes, and taking a quick jab at Dream Theater. (NICE!) Here is a screenshot from their Facebook page:

DANZIG Doesn't Want To Talk About Kitty Litter

xQT8x

A few weeks ago, the internet fell over it's collective chair when paparazzi photos surfaced of Glenn Danzig carrying out some groceries, in addition to some kitty litter. We can all agree that we had a good chuckle at the thought of somebody as grim as Danzig being cutesy-wutsey with a cat. Recently, Buzzgrinder had a chance to speak with Danzig and naturally they brought it up. He wasn't too into it: (more…)

Is There Going To Be A PANTERA Mini-Reunion with Phil Anselmo Tonight? (UPDATE: Nope!)

YouTube Preview Image

UPDATE Friday 10/29 5:25pm EST – Blabbermouth is reporting that numerous sources have told them Phil Anselmo will not be at the event tonight.

The Dime Bash, a huge party at LA's Key Club is happening tonight to honor the memory of Dimebag Darrell. Additionally, proceeds go to Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund. So basically, it's a great excuse to party hard. There are going to be all sorts of big names out there remembering Dime, covering classic Pantera tunes and downing some blacktooth grins. Recently, Kerry King was interviewed about the upcoming show and he may have left a big cat slip out of the bag:

"Rita's [Dime's girlfriend] busting my balls to do it, and I told her I would if she got me a real singer," Kerry said. "'Cause you never know who's gonna show up. So she goes, 'Phil Anselmo, Chuck Billy, Robb Flynn… Are those good enough?' And I'm, like, 'Fuck, I'll do it with any one of those guys.' But I'm gonna see her tonight. I haven't committed, but I guess she committed me. (laughs) Oh, Dave's doing it, for sure. But I'm pretty sure I'll do it."

Wow, this could be a really huge moment if Phil Anselmo and Vinnie Paul share the stage. We all know there was a huge rift between the two after Dime died, because Vinnie partially blames Phil for his brother's death after things Phil said in the media about Dime deserving to be hurt. But, that was honestly the old Phil Anselmo. He seemed to have cleaned up as of late and has been nothing but apologetic to Vinnie and Rita for the way he acted in the past.

I sure wish I was in LA tonight for this Dimebash, but with the advents of modern technology and Flip cams, I'm sure we'll be able to get in on the fun just a bit. Here is the entire scheduled lineup of artists for tonight's big show: (more…)

TORCHE Has A Fan In Mike Huckabee

Fox News' Red Eye program has featured metal acts in the past, most famously, Oderus Urungus of GWAR. This week though, the show featured Torche, who got one of the grandest of welcomes, in the form of a video piece (above) with voiceover by self-proclaimed “doom metal expert” and former Arkansas governor, Mike Huckabee. What really bothers me about this video is how Huckabee parodies the Fox News style saying if you don't like Torche, you are a racist or a homophone. HA HA! Get it? Cause that's what Fox News does. They resort to name calling. Kill yourself, Fox News!

Anyway, good for Torche for getting some press on TV, which is hard to come by nowadays. The host of the show also interviewed the band, and was practically asking frontman Steve Brooks out on a date. Here is the full interview: (more…)

GOJIRA To Record New EP Next Week

YouTube Preview Image

This is exciting news. Way back in April, Gojira fontman Joe Duplantier spoke out during a French news report (viewable above) that the band would be heading into the studio over the summer to record an 5 track EP, from which the proceeds will benefit the anti-whaling organization Sea Shepherd. Summer came and went and we heard nothing of this EP. Well, looks like things were pushed back a little, because Gojira just blogged that they will be entering the studio next week with producer Logan Mader (former Machine Head guitarist, recorded Cavalera Conspiracy). As a long-time Gojira fan, this is incredibly exciting news. Here is the band's official statement off their Myspace blog:

Gojira will be in Los Angeles next week in the studio with Logan Mader, recording an EP to support the action of Sea Shepherd led by Paul Watson. A lot of people are showing their support already. We'll have very special guests singing on these 4 songs. We'll keep you posted !Cheers

If you just can't wait, check out over an hour of pro-shot Gojira concert footage that we posted back in July.

CHIMIARA Guitarist Covers SIX FEET UNDER Lounge Style

YouTube Preview Image

Here is a deleted scene from Chimaira's recently released Coming Alive CD/DVD set, which features a live concert and a documentary. The scene above was cut out of the documentary, but is still good for some lulz. It features guitarist Rob Arnold giving a very soulful lounge version of Six Feet Under's "Remains of You". Good stuff, but I personally prefer Cannibal Corpse gone lounge.

The band used the opportuunity to also promote their upcoming string of shows with DAATH, which we highly recommend you check out if it's coming to your town.

It's Just Business

Limewire Shuts Down

Well this is news to me. Limewire sitll exists! Well, I guess I should say existed. A court injunction has forced the company to turn off it's file sharing for good after being sued by the RIAA. Good work, RIAA, 2004 is probably so pissed right now. Where will 2004 get all their illegal files now? Seriously, I can't think of one person who is affected by this. But apparently, Limewire boasted that they have 50 million active users. That means 50 million people don't know what the heck a torrent is or how you can just Google any band name and find their music with some clever keywording. RIAA, all I can say is, keep fighting the good outdated fight!

METAL INJECTION LIVECAST #89 – Shlomo Singing, The Meaning of Pain

What a return episode we have for you this week which also happens to be our Halloween edition. We started the episode talking about our CMJ show last week and how Rob and Noa met Shlomo in person. Shlomo called in, of course to give you his side of the story. We moved onto Sean telling a story of hanging out at a Chicago bar during the UFC ppv this weekend, and how he was instigating a fight with the meathead fans there. We brought up the Rent Is Too Damn High dude. After the music break, we talked about Noa's recent dance classes. Immediately following that, Shlomo called in and we somehow got him to serenade us with a stunning rendition of "Angel of Death" (or L.M.F.) by Slayer. We closed out the show with a little Thrash It or Trash It playing Al Gore (Is BROOTAL), Unforgiven, Lost Soul, Sirens and Serenades.

Also, since this was the Halloween edition, we sprinkled pre-recorded segments with some of your favorite Livecast characters talking about what costumes they are wearing for Halloween!

Here is this week's playlist:

The Misfits – Halloween
Entombed – Hollywood Babylon
Coliseum – Bullet
Snapcase – She
Refused – Bullet
Marduk – Earth A.D.
Integrity – Hybrid Moments
Metallica – Last Caress/Green Hell
Deadguy – Death Comes Ripping

Two Shredders Walk Into A Basement, And Shred!

YouTube Preview Image

Here is a video of Darkest Hour guitarist Mike Schleibaum and Periphery guitarist Misha Mansoor just shooting the shit and shredding their pants off. This video was shot to help promote the upcoming Legacy tour which will feature Darkest Hour, Periphery, Veil of Maya and Revocation, which is an absolutely STELLAR bill which we look forward to seeing. Meanwhile, enjoy this video above. I really dig the jam these two pull off at the end, should be a fun tour.

Show Recap

DAIKAIJU, An Incredible Surf Rock Band, Totally Stole The Show Last Night

Last night, I headed out to Union Pool to check out the two Brent Hinds (Mastodon) side projects. I arrived a little after doors opened, and as soon as I walked in, I was greeted by a bunch of dudes in kabuki masks. I found my buddy Axl Rosenberg of MetalSucks greeted me with a simple phrase, "This band is awesome." That was no understatement. I proceeded to get my mind blown by this psychedelic instrumental quartet who go by the name Daikaiju. The music very much reminded me of something I might hear Buckethead play, and at times it sounded like The Mars Volta. But make no mistake, there was nothing derivative here. These guys could play their instruments and put on a fanstatic show. All the while they never said a word. They simply mimed signals at the end of each song requesting applause for certain band members and then bowing in appreciation of the applause. The guitarist would have no problem jumping into the crowd to dance with the people in attendance.

It was a fun time, and very rarely am I this blown away by a band anymore. While I really enjoyed both of Brent Hinds' bands, they didn't capture my attention nearly as much as Daikaiju. Once I got home, I did a bit of research (checked their MySpace page) and found that they are from Huntsville, AL. They have two records, a self-titled, and Phase 2 which they just released. I have embedded below the most memorable track from last night's performance. Take a listen and if you dig it, support these dudes, they deserve it.

NECROPHAGIST Guitarist Releases Ambient Side Project

Well the year is almost over and I can confirm that we will NOT be getting any new Necrophagist this year. After speaking to a few people in the know, I can say there is hope for a release in early 2011, but nobody is holding their breath. One such person seems to be Necrophagist guitarist Sami Raatikainen, who has decided to release a solo project in his downtime. He's calling the project Radiance and has some serious help in the vocals department: Mats Levén (Krux, ex-Therion, Yngwie Malmsteen) and Noora Häkkinen (Noradrenaline).

The first album from Radiance has been posted in full for streaming on Bandcamp. At first listen, the music sort of reminds me of Animals As Leaders with a tinge of power metal mixed in (mostly because of the vocals). It's certainly very musical, and worth a listen if you're a Necrophagist fan. Check it out and keep up to date with the band on their official site.

This 14 Year Old Kid Shredding ANIMALS AS LEADERS Is Better Than You!

YouTube Preview Image

What were you doing when you were 14? Me? I was probably off watching WrestleMania or something, working on a AOL homepage. Kids today though. They are machines! Case in point is one Michael Gilinsky. While he may share the same hairstyle as Justin Beiber, the similarities stop there. This kid can shred! Here is a video he posted of himself playing CAFO by the jizzworthy Animals As Leaders and completely fucking nailing it. To be this good at guitar at age 14, can only mean one thing – he must be destroyed! Granted, he didn't compose any of the music, it's all the work of superandroid Tosin Abasi, but it still takes quite a bit of talent to pull it off, and he did so flawlessly. I tip my hat to you, sir. All you other 14 year olds, take notice and step up your game!

Oh, and while we're on the topic of Animals As Leaders, I must mention again that you should check out our uber-sexy live footage of the band from a few months ago.
