> A teaser for MESHUGGAH’s Bleed video has made its way online, and it looks very awesome. Check it out here with additional stills from the shoot. I had a chance to speak with Mårten Hagström during the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival about the video, and he clued me in that the band had no time to shoot any performance for the video, so its all just narrative (story). The directors of the video, Mike Pecci and Ian McFarland, came to the band with a concept and the band gave them full control to shoot it. Sounds like its going to be awesome! If you haven’t checked out our recent interview with drummer Tomas Haake, you probably should just click here.

The Houston Chronicle reports about a few Macgyver smokers, who swapped out household smoking utensils, for something a bit more br00tal:
Two men and a juvenile are accused of digging up a corpse, decapitating the body and using the head to smoke marijuana, according to court documents.Matthew Gonzalez and Kevin Jones have been charged with the misdemeanor offense of abuse of a corpse, said Scott Durfee, a spokesman for the Harris County District Attorneys Office.
According to documents filed in the case, Gonzalez, Jones and an unnamed juvenile on March 15 went to an Humble cemetery, dug up a man’s grave, left with the head and turned it into a “bong.”
Back in 1993, the land of Sweden had spawned yet another influential metal band by the name of Dissection. Although not the band’s first recording, Dissection’s 1993 LP “The Somberlain” was the first official release from these black / death metal pioneers. A year before it’s release date, the band originally from Stromstad Sweden, picked up and relocated to Gothenburg where they shared a rehearsal space with other Swedish legends At The Gates. This may, or may not be the influence they needed to create what is known to be the first “Black-Death Metal” LP recorded.
While Dissection’s 1990 demo “The Grief Prophecy” was re-released in memory of Dead, the former vocalist for the notorious Norwegian black metal group Mayhem, “The Somberlain” was dedicated to Euronymous, guitarist of Mayhem who was murdered the same year of it’s release.
This live video of “The Somberlain” is off Dissection’s only DVD release “Rebirth of Dissection” filmed in 2004. This was in fact the first show the band played after vocalist Jon Nodtveidt was release from prison, where he spent 7 years doing time for murdering a homosexual male. 2 Years after this live DVD taping that featured no original Dissection members but himself, Nodtveidt was forbidden to enter the United States because of his incarceration and was unable to finish the band’s final tour. 2 weeks after Dissection’s farewell concert in Stockholm, Jon Nodtveidt was found dead from self inflicted gun shot wounds.
Metal Injection had the distinct pleasure to speak with MESHUGGAH drummer Tomas Haake, during the band’s current run on MINISTRY’s C U LaTour. Additionally, Haake goes into further detail about the meaning behind the band’s latest release obZen and the controversial cover art.

“The guys have been writing like crazy, we’re already 4 songs in! I’ve got lyrics to a couple and we’ll be playing ‘em at the upcoming shows! All I can say is this new stuff is completely insane. We have reached a new level of intensity that in my opinion completely annihilates anything we’ve ever done. That goes for the first 2 Cattle records as well! Just too damn intense for words… you gotta come check it out for yourself!”
