Shawn Crahan Still Wants A SLIPKNOT Double Album, Says The Band Has A Ton Of Material

If he gets his way, which he says he might not.

If he gets his way, which he says he might not.

In July 2015, Shawn "Clown" Crahan said he hoped Slipknot's next album would be a double album, and people never quite let that one go. This year he reiterated the double album idea, and added that Slipknot has about 27 new songs in various forms right now. So could a Slipknot double album actually happen once Corey Taylor is back in the fold and the band really gets down to it? Crahan certainly hopes so.

Speaking to the MetalSucks Podcast, Crahan says he'd like to do two albums that come out at once, neither of which would be terribly long.

"Don't hold me to this, but if I had my own way — which I don't, but I've got a big say — I would do two records that would come out the same time, but there would be no more than nine songs [per album] and [each] album would be under an hour, if not under fifty minutes."

"I was fortunate enough to work with Rick Rubin on Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses), and he and I got in an interesting conversation about what it takes to make a phenomenal double album, and the first thing he said was about seventy-five songs — to be able to whittle it down to the best. I never forgot that."

Personally, I thought .5: The Gray Chapter was one of Slipknot's strongest albums to date, and it'll be really cool to see where the band goes with a double album concept. Plus, it's not like Corey Taylor can't handle the lyrical storyboard for a double album – dude did it with Stone Sour's House Of Gold And Bones.
