CHIMAIRA is Officially Over

Mark Hunter has chosen to end Chimaira

While a lot of late-90s bands like Limp Bizkit and Korn are seeing a resurgence, one is calling it a day, and that band is Chimaira.

Two days ago, guitarist Emil Werstler announced his departure and soon after, ever other member of the band, save for founding frontman Mark Hunter, announced they were also quitting. MetalSucks reported that numerous sources told them that the turnout for Chimaira's most recent U.S. run, which ended over the weekend, was abysmal, and it was most likely the reason for everybody's departure. After all, if there are more people on stage than in the crowd, is it even a gig or just a traveling rehearsal?

Today, Hunter made it official: Chimaira is over. He posted the above graphic to the official Chimaira website with the following message:

"After fifteen full-blown ass-ripping years, it is with great honor to announce the end of Chimaira.

Thanks to everyone that supported the group in any way shape or form.

Everyone involved with the band, from members to fans, put their heart and soul into this project. We achieved a lot. We bled a lot. It fucking ruled."

It's a bittersweet ending to the band, who arguably put one of the best releases of their career with Crown of Phantoms last year, backed by a successful crowdfunding campaign to help with marketing, only to see the band come crumbling down a year later.

R.I.P. Chimaira.
