Avenged Sevenfold has two guitarists – Synyster Gates and Zacky Vengeance. Gates studied jazz and classical guitar at Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, and Vengeance isn't sure what tuning his guitar is in.
We're not making fun of the dude, though! Vengeance literally tells The Salt Lake Tribune that he has no idea what chord names are or how to tune his guitar to a certain tuning. Though clearly that hasn't stopped him from writing great riffs, so who cares, right?
"I've never taken a lesson in my life. I'm completely punk rock in playing the guitar. I couldn't tell you the name of a chord, other than they're letters. If someone told me I had to tune my guitar down to a C-sharp, and my guitar tech didn't hand it to me already tuned, I would not be able to tune it," he said. "I just learned to play by feel, by listening, by playing stuff that sounded cool."
Here's hoping Vengeance continues to hire techs who know their stuff.
