ANTHRAX's Scott Ian Gushes Over METALLICA's "Orion" – "Did They Find a Bottle of Beethoven Pills?"

"When I listen to a song like ‘Master’ or ‘Sanitarium’ now with 30 years of experience it’s easy to see what they did."

As we've reported previously, in November, Metallica will release a very special remastered deluxe edition of 1986’s Master of Puppets, arguably, their greatest album ever.

And one person who agrees is Anthrax's Scott Ian. It's no secret what a big fan Ian is of Metallica's work, and he actually penned a huge essay to be included in the special edition. Today, an excerpt from that essay finds Ian gushing about Metallica's instrumental masterpiece, "Orion." Take a read:

“You have to remember that this was 1986 and they were breaking new ground. When I listen to a song like ‘Master’ or ‘Sanitarium’ now with 30 years of experience it’s easy to see what they did. But in 1986 it was E=MC 2. It was unfathomable and I haven’t even gotten to their masterpiece ‘Orion’ yet. Seriously, did they find a bottle of Beethoven pills? How did they have the maturity to write an eight-and-a-half-minute instrumental that works? ‘Orion’ is moving, it’s cohesive and exciting, and it is dynamic. My ears never even had a chance to get bored because Metallica made me wonder what was coming next.”

It really is wild that Metallica wrote this album when they were all around 23 years old. What the fuck have I done with my life?

You can get the 3CD remaster of Master of Puppets from Amazon for $21.99 or the entire gorgeous vinyl collection for about $150.
