Indonesian Presidential Hopeful Is A Metal Fan!

Metalheads aren't just in the mosh pit, they're everywhere! Some have day gigs in the board room, at the hospital or… running for president of Indonesia.

Meet Joko Widodo. He is the current governor of Jakarta, and according to the New York Times, plotting a presidential campaign. He's also a big fan of Metallica and Napalm Death.

“I listen to loud metal songs, from Metallica to Led Zeppelin, to Napalm Death… because rock is my passion,” he told the Agence France Presse ahead of a Metallica concert, according to Inquirer.

Widodo met Metallica when they played Indonesia recently and bassist Robert Trujillo even gave the governor a bass as a present which he turned over to Indonesia’s anti-corruption agency in May.

The governor is considered a man of the people, coming from a humble upbringing and choosing to ride motorbikes instead of motorcades in town. While Widodo has yet to make any concrete presidental announcements, in recent polls he is favored to win with 32.5 percent choosing him, at least 10% higher than any other constituent. Indonesian presidential elections happen in 2014, and it would be pretty awesome to have a metalhead running (at least) one country in the world.
