One Scientist Translated The "Higgs Boson" Discovery Into Some Riffy Metal

Particle physicists apparently get bored too, or just want to have a lot of fun.

Particle physicist and full-time metalhead Piotr Traczyk has two very evident passions in life and apparently figured he'd just jam them both into video. According to io9, which has a lot more credibility and knowledge about this sort of thing than myself, the song you hear is just a translation of Tracczyk's work.

To convert the discovery of the Higgs boson into music, Traczyk mapped points in histograms to a chromatic scale, and then used logarithms to squeeze the frequency range into something suitable for a guitar. The resulting "song" is performed by two guitars, where one plays the gamma-gamma run and the other the 4-lepton riff. You can geek out over more details at the Cylindrical Onion blog.

Ah yes, of course! I'm glad they said it. My explanation was going to way too long and smart.
