IKILLYA Rages Against Cultural Justification Of Rape With "Betray Your Creator"

"Pure rage. That’s how we feel about cultural justification of rape."

In its new song and video, IKILLYA channels its absolute rage into its hatred of how rape has become justified in modern culture, which is one hell of a heavy topic. I'll let vocalist Jason Lekberg explain the song and video, as described to Ghost Cult Mag.

“Pure rage. That’s how we feel about cultural justification of rape, and so that’s the only way we could think to visually represent this song. ‘Betray Your Creator’ was an intense song to create and Matt Brewster and Christoph Knie of Engine Room did an excellent job of capturing that intensity in the video for it.”

The band actually elaborated more on the song and video in the MetalSucks comment section too, shedding more light on what the inspiration was.

Unfortunately, tons of people. For starters, here's the doc that inspired me to write the song: https://news.vice.com/artic… and https://www.youtube.com/wat…. According to a recent UN report 8 in 10 men in rural Bangladesh admit to have committed rape. As you will see from that coverage, the government and religions leaders blame the women. Telling them "you shouldn't be outside"…. In our own country, here's a story about cops in NOLA who ignored hundreds of rape claims: https://news.vice.com/artic…, and we haven't even begun to discuss our Frat date rape culture. According to the UN, one in every 3 women worldwide experience physical or sexual violence. An analysis of how these are justified will take more than a comment on a blog and a case by case examination – but I think it's clear that there's something to be said.

IKILLYA will be releasing War For An Idea on June 2, and you can pre-order that here.
