This is the only time I am happy to say MTV lead me to At The Gates and in a very direct way. MTV used to have a News segment "You Hear it First" and that is where I found out about The Haunted. After seeing that I went to 'The Wall' and bought 'Made Me Do It.' That is still one of my favorite albums of all time. That lead me direct to At the Gates. This was in 2000.

I like her boobies…and Slaughter of the Soul. Annoying? Not nearly as much as Zeena on Liquid Metal – she's brutally annoying.

Great album. I love when he screams "GO!", gets my blood pumping. Definitely deserves a spot on this list.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH #1 SHOULD BE MANOWAR'S BATTLE HYMN!

  • Tobias Nördmark

My favourite album ever. The thing where he screams "GO" and later "DO IT". It's maybe not metal, but I love it!

Now I really want to see Axl jump on stage at an At The Gates show, steal the mic just as they're about to yell "GO!" and instead yell, "Yeah! We're doing this!"

The Red In the Sky is Ours is even more influential and 100x better.. and Slaughter of the Soul killed old school melodic death metal.. and had everyone in Sweden dropping melodic tremolos for half-thrash groove riffs.

    • Tim Bartolini

How on earth is that album more influential? Actually, you just basically demonstrated the influence of Slaughter of the Soul in your comment. Just because it started this Swedish trend thing doesn't mean it's better, but it definitely means it's more influential. You hear bands ripping off melodies off of this, not from the Red in the Sky.
