Death is the greatest band to ever live! They definitely deserve the 5th spot. Great choice.

  • Tim Bartolini

Well think about this: Slayer is recognized for being highly influential to thrash metal and heavy metal in general along with Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax. Death IS the major architect of death metal. When a death metal band looks at its influences, more likely than not their biggest one is going to be Death. Possessed and Obituary and etc may be in there, but nobody kickstarted the genre, pushed the limits, and progressed their shit in death metal as much as Chuck Schuldiner and the gang did.

Death in front of Slayer and Pantera LOL… and there was a guy who said that the production on this album was good… where on Potato planet!?

  • EL_duderino

Big fan of Death and this album……but really?! I realize im late in this count down to be defending Slayer, but beating out Reign in Blood?! This is suppose to be about bands with influential records. It is completely fare to say that without Slayer there never would have been Possessed or Death. I ill put money down that Reign in Blood spawned more bands (of any genera) alone than Death all together. Death metal wouldn't exist without Slayer. Their places should be switched in my opinion.

I wouldn't say that. There were plenty of bands other than slayer that were influential for death metal. For one Kreater.

If anyone doubts the plausibility of Death as one of the most amazing bands of their time, or all time for that matter, I challange you….download, Symbolic. Buy the album. Stream that shit. Whatever you have to do. Yeah, Scream Bloody Gore paved the way…..but Symbolic perfected a formula. Balanced brutality and technical ecstasy. Itll feed you your heart and leave you begging for more. Death – Symbolic. Get on it, Time=Now.

I would agree, Symbolic is my favorite Death album. Pure perfection
