Weekly Injection

THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From HOLY GRAIL, ROTTING CHRIST and More Out Today – 2/12

This week's edition lacks your bigger names in metal, but has plenty of newer and/or lesser-known bands worth of your attention. They include a Society that is Lost, a Grail that is Holy, a Christ that is Rotting, some Bells (Eight of them), and more! To the metals…

Eight Bells – Landless 617wTa+6+BL

Genre: Experimental doom
Origin: Portland, Oregon
Label: Battleground

Buy now on Amazon.com

It is rare that so much beauty is infused into something so heavy and doomy. This trio comes together to create an entirely unique experience that touches on black metal, shoegaze, and prog while remaining slow and heavy. They are the slow side of metal's answer to Myrkur. I really can't get over this album.

The Erkonauts – I Did Something Bad 819xTWCDnVL._SL1400_

Genre: Progressive
Origin: Geneva, Switzerland
Label: Kaotoxin

Buy now on Amazon.com

Let's keep this Weekly Injection weird. Next up is another band fusing a ton of influences to create something great. Driving rock n roll is their foundation, yet The Erkonauts dabble with some smokey stoner riffs, galloping awkward rhythms, and more all while still maintaining memorable and powerful hooks. If they did something bad, it certainly wasn't this album. High five for that fun turn of phrase? Anyone? No? Alright.

Holy Grail – Times Of Pride And Peril 91AyayUrW6L._SL1500_

Genre: Heavy metal
Origin: Pasadena, California
Label: Prosthetic

Buy now on Amazon.com

Those still mourning the loss of 3 Inches of Blood should mourn no more and find solace in Holy Grail. Weave in some Shadows Fall-esque guitar shredding, and you have this gem that snuck up on me. These guys are the sonic equivalent of a show-torn battle vest. Read Jon's full review here.

Lost Society – Braindead 81d4NIupJBL._SL1200_

Genre: Thrash
Origin: Jyväskylä, Finland
Label: Nuclear Blast

Buy now on Amazon.com

Wanna get in a pit and bang your fucking head!??! Neat. Pick up this one and get your thrash on.

Magrudergrind – II 81PU-R90XxL._SL1500_

Genre: Grindcore/Powerviolence
Origin: Washington D.C.
Label: Relapse

Buy now on Amazon.com

Are you too busy in today's day-to-day chaos? Are three and four minutes songs just too long to fit into your waking hours? If so, get your teeth kicked in with bite-sized morsels on Magrudergrind's long-awaited return, II. They are the band for those looking for a sludgier Meek is Murder.

Rotting Christ – Rituals 51UA+qjT4OL

Genre: Extreme/Black metal
Origin: Athens, Greece
Label: Season Of Mist

Buy now on Amazon.com

Ending this week in a dark and very interesting place. Rituals is the latest album from the long-running and ever-evolving Greek madmen. Every song is wildly different and I really respect that. Features some guests in tow like include Nick Holmes of Paradise Lost, Vorph of Samael, and more. Solid. Kevin has a full review here.
