Weekly Injection

THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From SULPHER AEON, LANCER, and More Out Today – 4/14

Greetings nerds. This week is a slower week for releases, but I'm a bit relieved. I've been moving and the last thing I need is too much good metal holding up progress. This is just the right amount. To the metals…

Gallows – Desolation Sounds716kpVUkBPL._SL1500_

Genre: Hardcore
Origin: Watford, England
Label: Bridge Nine

I first heard this band a few years ago and they seemed to have more of a straight up hardcore sounds. They were one of the bands Kerrang was ga ga for in the few issues I've read. The little I've heard from this album still has tinges of that band, but they seemed to instead be opting for experimenting and infusing catchy melodies. Not bad. Beats most of what I'd be hearing on my radio waves.

Lancer – Second Storm 71b8MWa2PZL._SL1000_

Genre: Heavy metal
Origin: Arvika, Sweden
Label: Despotz

Fans of Hammerfall and more modern homages to the the ways of Iron Maiden should get on Lancer. Melodic, joyous guitar melodies fuel this collection of heavy metal tracks that will make you want to dust off your denim vest all over again. Also, I'm pretty sure the album cover is a robot emu, so that's worth at least a listen or two.

Murdock – Dead Lunga1251085379_10

Genre: Progressive hardcore
Origin: Ireland
Label: Basick

A chaotic, noisy band for fans of Converge that has a surprising amount of melody buried in their madness. I could see them on a bill with anyone from Mastodon, to Cancer Bats, to Between The Buried and Me, to even Gallows.

Stearica – Fertile81idCQNJotL._SL1500_

Genre: Instrumental/experimental/sludge
Origin: Torino, Italy
Label: Monotreme

Full of awesome rhythms and lush atmosphere, Stearica could easily be the latest metal band to crossover into the non-metal world. Or are they are non-metal band crossing over into the metal world? Regardless, great.

Sulphur Aeon – Gateway To The Antisphere81Qi9clLY9L._SL1181_

Genre: Death metal
Origin: North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
Label: Van/Imperium

This will probably be out big winner for the week. Atmospheric death metal that envelops and disembowels listeners. Oddly beautiful while being just as horrifying.
