The Agony Scene – TormentorTHE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From SKELETONWITCH, SCARS ON BROADWAY, and More Out Today 7/20

Genre: Metalcore/melodic death metal
Origin: Tulsa, Oklahoma
Label: Outerloop/Cooking Vinyl

It's been a bunch of years since this band's last album and quite a bit of time since their reunion, but their return album has arrived. The little I've heard is pretty cool. I was unaware of this band during their initial early 2000's run. Fans of the era will probably enjoy this.

Epica – Epica Vs. Attack On Titan EP THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From SKELETONWITCH, SCARS ON BROADWAY, and More Out Today 7/20

Genre: Symphonic metal
Origin: Reuver, Netherlands
Label: Nuclear Blast

Metal is weird and amazing sometimes. There's a band that all dress up like Ned Flanders from the Simpsons, a metal guy recorded an entire album inspired by Scrooge McDuck, and now Epica have released an EP of songs from the anime Attack On Titan. WHY!? A better question is why not? More bands should do fun cool shit like this.

Jungle Rot – Jungle Rot THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From SKELETONWITCH, SCARS ON BROADWAY, and More Out Today 7/20

Genre: Death metal
Origin: Kenosha, Wisconsin
Label: Victory

Jungle Rot are bringing the grounded driving rhythms this week, and there's nothing wrong with that. Straight forward heaviness is where it's at sometimes. A solid release for a band's ninth album.

Journal – Chrysalis Ordalias THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From SKELETONWITCH, SCARS ON BROADWAY, and More Out Today 7/20

Genre: Mathcore/Progressive metal
Origin: Sacramento, California
Label: Self-released

Northern California's techiest metal band has finally returned after eight years of silence. Chrysalis Ordalias is a melodic and chaotic adventure with a story so dense that it required a book to explain it. A triumphant and welcomed return. Also, yes this technically came out Tuesday.

Khorada – Salt THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From SKELETONWITCH, SCARS ON BROADWAY, and More Out Today 7/20

Genre: Sludge
Origin: Portland, Oregon
Label: Prophecy

When Agalloch dissolved I was very sad. When Giant Squid broke up I was also very sad. When the vocalist of Giant Squid joined forces with three quarters of Agalloch to from Khorada I became happy once again. This might be weirder than you'd expect, but golly is it good.

Daron Malakian and Scars On Broadway – Dictator THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From SKELETONWITCH, SCARS ON BROADWAY, and More Out Today 7/20

Genre: Alternative metal
Origin: Los Angeles, California
Label: Scarred For Life

System of a Down may never release another album together, and the more I think about it, I think that might be the best call for their legacy. Daron Malakian seems to have come to terms with that and is finally releasing another Scars On Broadway album or rather Daron Malakian and Scars On Broadway album. It's quite similar to the previous Scars album, in that is sounds like Mesmerize and Hypnotize just without Serj.

Skeletonwitch – Devouring Radiant Light THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From SKELETONWITCH, SCARS ON BROADWAY, and More Out Today 7/20

Genre: Melodic death metal/blackened thrash
Origin: Athens, Ohio
Label: Prosthetic

New(ish) vocalist Adam Clemens had a pretty diverse resume prior to him joining Skeletonwitch and It seems like his work with Wolvhammer and Shaidar Logoth has rubbed off on the guys more than ever on Devouring Radiant Light. This is more grim than I've ever heard the band be before, and it's really cool. I imagine that this will be a divisive album. How you feeling about it?
