THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From PROPHETS OF RAGE, SUBROSA, PLINI, and More Out Today 8/26

Happy last Weekly Injection of Anal August! This edition includes supergroups, doom for those that aren't that into doom, another Omar Rodriguez-Lopez release, and more! To the metals…

Delain – Moonbathers 81PHbZMMG2L._SL1500_

Genre: Symphonic metal
Origin: Zwolle, Netherlands
Label: Napalm

Buy now on Amazon.com

Now on their fifth record, and with fourteen years under their collective belts, Delain have figure out who they are. Moonlovers is more of the band differentiating themselves from the sea of female-fronted melodic metal bands by embracing more of a pop style than an operatic style. Fans shouldn't be upset with this one. Also, those looking for a little more than the norm from them should check out "Hands of Gold" which features Alissa from Arch Enemy.

Inquisition – Bloodshed Across The Empyrean Altar Beyond The Celestial Zenith 61vS728Wb3L

Genre: Black metal
Origin: Cali, Colombia
Label: Season Of Mist

Buy now on Amazon.com

Grim, no frills, black metal. Stretch your neck, press play below and get your windmill going.

Lesbian – Hallucinogenesis A1-QesziiyL._SL1500_

Genre: Progressive doom
Origin: Seattle, Washington
Label: Translation Loss

Buy now on Amazon.com

One of my favorite Bay Area bands has returned, and they're back as a quintet with a shiny new vocalist on the mic. While doom at their core, this band also dabbles with folk, black metal, and more throughout this adventure of a record.

Prophets Of Rage – The Party's Over716gJF6lNNL._SL1500_

Genre: Rap metal
Origin: Los Angeles, California
Label: Prophets Of Rage

Buy now on Amazon.com

It's been well documented, but I'll say it again… This is Chuck-D of Public Enemy, B-Real of Cypress Hill, and Rage Against the Machine (minus Zach). This collaboration may be a dream come true for those into early rap and Rage. The EP is mostly live stuff, but it's still a pretty interesting listening considering the line-up.

Plini – Handmade Citiesa2040672325_10

Genre: Progressive metal
Origin: Sydney, Australia
Label: Indiependent

Buy now on Amazon.com

Fresh off announcing he is opening the Animals as Leaders and Intervals tour, Plini is dropping is first full-length album. Like all his work, the record is graceful guitar wanking and stellar compositions. This time it's just more at once, which is pretty rad.

Omar Rodriguez-Lopez – Arañas en La Sombraa2142259499_10

Genre: Experimental rock
Origin: El Paso, Texas
Label: Ipecac

Buy now on Amazon.com

Here is album number four in the avalanche of 2016 releases from Omar, and this one is special. It features the oldest material on this series, and includes Teri Gender Bender (Le Butcherettes), alongside Eva Gardner (Mars Volta's Tremulant ep), Jon Theodore (most Mars Volta releases), Isiah "Ikey" Owens (most Mars Volta) and John Frusciante (most Mars Volta and Red Hot Chili Peppers). So it is essentially a Mars Volta record with Omar on the mic.

Sodom – Decision Day 817j53BUBFL._SL1200_

Genre: Thrash
Origin: Gelsenkirchen, Germany
Label: SPV/Steamhammer

Buy now on Amazon.com

Despite being thirty-five years into their career, Decision Day proves that Tom Angelripper and the gang can still get pits going. Their fifteenth album should give fans something to enjoy, and introduces a new group of people to a legendary band.

Solution .45 – Nightmare In The Waking State: Part II 587553

Genre: Melodic death metal
Origin: Skövde, Sweden
Label: AFM

Buy now on Amazon.com

This melodic death metal supergroup came out swinging in 2010 on For Aeons Past, then hit just as hard with part one of this series Nightmare In The Waking State: Part I. Now, less than a year since Part I dropped, Part II has arrived and fans salivating since November shall not be disappointed. Ex-Scar Symmetry voice Christian Avestamis is still killing it, and the other guys (who are also all current and former members of great bands) ain't no slouches here neither.

SubRosa – For This We Fought The Battle Of Ages 41HO6xJmG0L

Genre: Doom/Stoner/Experimental
Origin: Salt Lake City, Utah
Label: Profound Lore

Buy now on Amazon.com

Slowing things down this week are SubRosa. The band's fourth record is doomy, and just as full of beauty and dread as one could hope. This one completely entrances the listener in a unique way with their dueling violins, crushing rhythms and overall atmosphere.

Twelve Foot Ninja – Outlier61UnsZK66uL

Genre: Experimental metal
Origin: Melbourne, Austrailia
Label: Volkanik

Buy now on Amazon.com

Outlier is a fitting title for this band's record, and especially to close out this Weekly Injection. Australian's band of boundary-crossing madmen have returned to twist and turn through your brain. They bring their particular blend of catchy melodies, borderline djent rhythms, and an almost Dillinger Escape Plan-level of chaos.

"In many ways it does have some sonics that you might have expected in the actual year 1982."
