Andrew W.K. – You're Not Alone THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From OCEANS OF SLUMBER, IRON REAGAN & GATECREEPER, and More Out Today – 3/2

Genre: Rock
Origin: Stanford, California
Label: Sony

Andrew W.K. isn't metal. I'd say pretty far from it, and especially far on this album. However, he's one of those artists that transcends his genre. So in this time where everything is crazy, enjoy a break from the angry and aggressive with this catchy record. It's not exactly a party record though. He's matured quite a bit. Oh, and I'll go ahead and answer your snarky quip of "He's still around?" Yes, he is, and you're still an asshole.

Black Moth – Anatomical Venus THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From OCEANS OF SLUMBER, IRON REAGAN & GATECREEPER, and More Out Today – 3/2

Genre: Heavy metal/stoner
Origin: Leeds, England
Label: Candlelight

I don't think I knew of Black Moth before this record (maybe I did? I don't know, this gig makes me listen to A LOT of stuff.). I'm glad I found this record though. This is riffs on riffs coupled with stellar vocals from Harriet Hyde. There is certainly a little Sabbath worship going on, but when they stray from that, it's just the bee's knees.

Iron Reagan/Gatecreeper – Split THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From OCEANS OF SLUMBER, IRON REAGAN & GATECREEPER, and More Out Today – 3/2

Genre: Crossover/Death metal
Origin: Richmond, Virginia/Phoenix, Arizona
Label: Relapse

Oh, kids and their split releases these days. This is fucking heavy though. Whether you want thrashy madness or a death metal pummeling, this has both. Both bands continue their success streaks on this release. A great jumping off point for either band if you've been curious, or want to expand your horizons.

Oceans Of Slumber – The Banished Heart THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From OCEANS OF SLUMBER, IRON REAGAN & GATECREEPER, and More Out Today – 3/2

Genre: Progressive metal/doom
Origin: Houston, Texas
Label: Century Media

I was first introduced to this band on their last album Winter, and was floored by the emotion they capture in their sound. The Banished Heart, their third full-length, showcases a band nailing their sound more than ever. This is both emotionally and sonically heavy, it is beautiful, and it's epic. Tom Englund of Evergrey even pops up to make it extra epic.

Rolo Tomassi – Time Will Die And Love Will Bury ItTHE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From OCEANS OF SLUMBER, IRON REAGAN & GATECREEPER, and More Out Today – 3/2

Genre: Progressive/post-hardcore
Origin: Sheffield, England
Label: Holy Roar

Fans of Iwrestledabearonce that want something a bit more refined, should give Rolo Tomassi a spin. Their sounds is incredibly diverse. One moment they are in some heavy groove, the next soaring melody, then Dillinger Escape Plan-esque chaos. It's a fun ride. Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It might be my favorite release from this band.

Sixes – Methistopheles THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From OCEANS OF SLUMBER, IRON REAGAN & GATECREEPER, and More Out Today – 3/2

Genre: Sludge/Doom
Origin: Southern California
Label: Black Bow Records

Let's end this edition in a sloooooooooooooow way. Sixes lurch through you mind at turtle speed, but do so while summoning demons. A demon-summoning turtle is kind of a cute image. Like, what would a turtle need a demon for? They just need lettuce. Anyway, they sound like if you played a black metal band at half speed, and it works well.
