THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From EVERGREY, SWALLOW THE SUN, and More Out Today - 1/25

Posted by on January 25, 2019 at 10:00 am

This edition includes some new blood, some old blood, some groovy blood, and no bandages at all. To the metals…

Bring Me the Horizon – amo

Genre: Metalcore/post-hardcore
Origin: Sheffield, England
Label: Columbia

The little I've heard of this album sounds like Hellogoodbye.

Evergrey – The Atlantic

Genre: Progressive power metal
Origin: Gothenburg, Sweden
Label: AFM

Evergrey have been a underrated force in progressive metal for a while now. This is their eleventh record, and it might be their best in as many years. This is epic, dense, and emotional; so a solid Evergrey record.

Incite – Built to Destroy

Genre: Thrash/Groove Metal
Origin: Phoenix, Arizona
Label: Minus Hea

If you're looking for some metal with lots of groove, look no further than the new Incite. After five records and a decade and a half Richie Cavalera has proven his material carries as much weight as his surname. Riley has a full review here.

King Diamond – Songs for the Dead Live

Genre: Heavy metal
Origin: Copenhagen, Denmark
Label: Metal Blade

It's been over a decade since King Diamond released a new record, but he hasn't stopped touring. On stage is where you want the King though, and this is evidence of that. This album and DVD captures two full shows, both of which include a full performance of Abigail but also includes performances of "Welcome Home," "Halloween," and lots more. This is a must have for King Diamond fans.

Mono – Nowhere Now Here

Genre: Post-rock
Origin: Tokyo, Japan
Label: Temporary Residence Limited

Mono are one of those long-running bands that flies just under the radar of a lot of people. Sure, they're more in the realm of Sigur Ros, but they have some heavy moments as well. They've done a split with The Ocean in the past and if Robin Staps hears the crossover appeal, you probably can too.

My Diligence – Sun Rose

Genre: "Powerful Rock"
Origin: Brussels, Belgium
Label: Mottow Soundz

Buy now from Mottow Soundz

The band's Facebook lists their genre as the above label of "powerful rock," and while I don't want to strip them of this fun description, this doesn't quite give this band's sound justice. They are a wildly experimental band that can sound like Muse at one moment, Pinback another, Red Fang the next, and then end in a hypnotic Kyuss jam. This band is equal parts prog, psychedelic, and heavy. They're entirely worth your time.

Puppy – The Goat

Genre: Hard rock/experimental
Origin: London, England
Label: Spinefarm

Like My Diligence, Puppy has a lot going on. They also have spacey elements that are juxtaposed with twists and turns, but they sound closer to Deftones, Nothing, Astronoid, and Goblin Cock. This is another newer band worth your time.

Swallow the Sun – When a Shadow Is Forced Into the Light

Genre: Doom/Melodic death metal
Origin: Jyväskylä, Finland
Label: Century Media

Let's wrap this week with an old faithful. If you're looking for something slow and sad, this is the one for you. It's been four year since their triple album, but this one is everything of that epic in one disc. I can already see this one being a favorite of metal media come year's end.
