Weekly Injection

THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From CLUTCH, DEAFHEAVEN, CHILDREN OF BODOM, and More Out Today – 10/2

Another STACKED week. New stuff from Earth Rockers, Finnish symphonic nerds, that one band Pitchfork loves, and many, many more! To the metals…

Children of Bodom – I Worship Chaos 81VvDBm2mKL._SL1417_

Genre: Extreme power metal
Origin: Espoo, Finland
Label: Nuclear Blast

Buy now on Amazon.com

You've heard a Children of Bodom record before, right? This album is that. Guitar shreddery, epicness, and the Grim Reaper on the cover. I can' be mad at it though. The band delivers what they're known for.

Clutch – Psychic Warfare 71TBduyLttL._SL1200_

Genre: Hard rock
Origin: Frederick, Maryland
Label: Weathermaker

Buy now on Amazon.com

One could argue I could write a similar blurb for Clutch as I just did for Bodom. Kinda true, but this record is still great. If you dig recent Clutch or Blast Tyrant this will be your jam. Peep Riley's full review here.

Deafheaven – New Bermuda Deafheaven-New-Bermuda

Genre: Post Black Metal
Origin: San Francisco, California
Label: Anti

Buy now on Amazon.com

Easily their best record yet. Both more and less metal than ever. The metal parts are certainly more riff driven, and the not-so metal parts are prettier and more indie than before. I am almost annoyed with how much hype this record has, and how much it lives up to it.

Dog Fashion Disco – Ad Nauseam 91eM3Z1TlaL._SL1500_

Genre: Avant-garde metal
Origin: Rockville, Maryland
Label: Rotten

Buy now on Amazon.com

Their second album since their comeback, and sadly I've only heard the included track. This taste is pretty good and if the overall record is as good as comeback record number one, Sweet Nothings, it'll be pretty sweet.

Kylesa – Exhausting Fire 812YGInjfRL._SL1500_

Genre: Sludge
Origin: Savannah, Georgia
Label: Season Of Mist

Buy now on Amazon.com

Now with only one drummer (what a wacky concept), one of Georgia's sludgy, stony mainstays is back bringing the smokiness they do so well. Their streamlined trio lineup seems to produce more straight-forward jams, but these jams are oh so tasty.

Malevolent Creation – Dead Man's Path 91ItN+CUEML._SL1500_

Genre: Death metal
Origin: Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Label: Century Media

Buy now on Amazon.com

Nothing heavy enough for you this week? Not technical enough for you? Welp, here you fucking go! Get your teeth kicked in by this death metal ditty

Queensryche – Condition Human 81Us9xRbuML._SL1500_

Genre: Progressive
Origin: Bellevue, Washington
Label: Century Media

Buy now on Amazon.com

Post-Tate Queensryche has returned, still Tate-less. The little I've heard is better than I was expecting. It's heavier than I thought, and proggier. I realize they're a long-running progressive metal/rock band, but they never really did it for me before.

Sevendust – Kill The Flaw 91O399PBVLL._SL1500_

Genre: Alt metal
Origin: Atlanta, Georgia
Label: 7Bros

Buy now on Amazon.com

You know what, maybe I'm just in a good mood and everything's doing it for me right now, or maybe, just maybe, this Sevendust record does actually kill it (it totally does). I really enjoyed Seasons and this album reminds me a lot of that record. Also, vocalist Lajon Witherspoon still has one of the best voices in heavy music, and I wasn't expecting that.

Temple Of Baal – Mysterium Temple-of-Baal-Mysterium-e1438184779816

Genre: Black metal
Origin: Paris, France
Label: Agonia

Buy now on Amazon.com

This is some cool, weird, dark shit. I'm totally unfamiliar with the band prior to the attached track, but damn am I curious now. They're like Behemoth with some avant garde elements. Maybe closer to a band like Murmur or Gorguts… Anyway, check it.

Trivium – Silence In The Snow 61CLNReSo3L._SL1425_

Genre: Melodic thrash
Origin: Orlando, Florida
Label: Roadrunner

Buy now on Amazon.com

Gotta be up front here. Trivium will always have a soft spot in my heart. Ascendancy changed my life and I though In Waves was really good also. This band always deserves a shot to me. This album is easily their most melodic and anthem-centric one thus far. I like it, but not for the same reason as the aforementioned records. I fully expect the same general backlash to follow this that came after The Crusade. No screaming sooooo….

Wild Throne – Harvest Of Darkness photo

Genre: Progressive
Origin: Bellingham, Washington
Label: Roadrunner

Buy now on Amazon.com

Ending strong this week. This noisy stoner/progressive/hardcore/etc trio from the Pacific Northwest do not disappoint on their full-length debut. I have a full gushing review here.
