Finally! Upcoming Releases

TOOL Begin Recording Their New Album

UPDATE 12/2/2011: Turns out we were wrong, and TOOL is not in the studio.

A little over a month ago, Maynard was asked about when fans could expect a new record from TOOL, and he said the band is still in writing mode. Looks like they had a really productive month, because according to the band's newsletter, they entered the studio last week.

While the newsletter update is a bit cryptic and incoherent (read it on the band's official page), what I gather is that on Thanksgiving day, the band entered their home studio with producer Joe Barresi and began tracking the new album. The band is going anolog for the sessions using a rare Studer A827 analog tape recorder (going for a cool $11.5k on eBay). Apparently, during the 4-day weekend, they completed a bunch of recordings.

Additionally, there are some hints of a short run of winter tour dates. We'll have to wait and see for that. Who's pumped? [via Bloody-Disgusting]

Hearing about new releases from Korn and Limp Bizkit has been making me weep for the future of humanity. This makes it better.

  3. SWEET !!!!! I remember seeing them live a few years back at the San Diego Street Festival. I was completely fucking hammered off of all the beers, margaritas, and "other" things I had that day. Ironically, the first song they played was SOBER. During the song, I noticed that all the adult beverages I had drank earlier wanted to see the show for themselves. I managed to stagger towards a fence, sit my ass down, and throw up 3 feet from the guy next to me. He was drunk and passed out on the floor until he heard me say, "HUMPHDFHDLFHDFLADHL !!!!" . Needless to say, TOOL is amazing live. Their performance was flawless that night !!!! I will always remember how awesome TOOL was live. Even though they commanded the crowd, I had a small audience of my own cheering, laughing, and taking pictures of me as I blew chunks to the song SOBER.

I cant wait to hear the new album.
