Tool are back in the studio! They first went back into the studio in March, to record the follow-up to 2006's 10,000 Days. The band is once again working with Joe Barresi on the boards.

Tool spent two months in the studio, before heading back on the road to play live gigs and do intimate clinics. In that time, they were able to complete drum tracking. During the band's live shows, frontman Maynard James Kennan was even jokingly begging the band to finish up so he could record its parts. Well, they are certainly back at it.

Today, Tool's social media posted a message noting bass recording with Justin Chancellor is going splendid. "Sounds like he is making great progress recording in 'a great studio.'" the message read. It was accompanied by this photo of Justin's setup:

Earlier this week, Maynard said that fans should not hold their breath for a release in 2018, that a 2019 release is much more plausible.
