MONUMENTS Announces New Album The Amanuensis

It's going to be a concept album.

It's going to be a concept album.

Last we heard from Monuments, it was last July when they enlisted former Periphery singer Chris Barretto as their new vocalist. Since then, the band has been working on a new album. Now the band has taken to Facebook to announce they'll be releasing The Amanuensis on July 8, which will be the first time we hear new music with Barretto on vocals. The album is going to be a conceptual one and from what I can gather sounds like it'll play through as one long song… but I could be wrong about that. Here's what to expect:

The Amanuensis, at least the title, was inspired by author David Mitchell’s novel, 'Cloud Atlas.' The complex story lines are the perfect analog for MONUMENTS. Musically, the group weave in and out of themes, motifs, and professor-like note calculations with graceful ease. But lyrically The Amanuensis comes from a very different place. 'The album is about the Samsara cycle,' reveals Browne (guitar). 'The cyclical existence of life that we are all bound to.'"

This could be cool! At the very least I'm a big fan of concept records, so it has that going for it.

Here are some older tracks the band re-recorded with Barretto's vocal stylings to hold you over for now:
