MASTODON Wraps Up Recording Its New Album, To Begin Mixing Shortly
I have no idea what to expect from Mastodon at this point, but we'll all find out for sure come 2017. The band has announced that it's wrapping up recording with producer Brendan O'Brien, ho the band began working with on 2009's Crack The Skye. What do know at this point is that drummer Brann Dailor will have played his grandmother's bass on one track and that it could possibly be a little more progressive-leaning.
The press release doesn't really offer much in the way of information.
So what can one expect from Mastodon's seventh studio exploration? Well… never ones to repeat, Mastodon embrace the challenge to continually push themselves toward an elevated trajectory with each new release. Their fearless blend of styles, textures and concepts have created a sonic pathway all their own. Each band member contributes their personal genetic footprint into their collective sound that has not only inspired contemporaries but has alighted fans and critics to espouse their appreciation.
Judging by that, the new Mastodon album could very well be a polka grindcore album or something. Regardless of sound, the mixing process will begin shortly and the album will arrive "in the early part of the New Year."
