Metal Injection

I was a really big fan of Deftones' last release, Diamond Eyes when it came out in 2010. It was Deftones proving they are still relevant in the modern heavy music landscape. Which is what makes today's news all the more exciting. Frontman Chino Moreno was interviewed by Chilean web site La Tercera and revealed that the band has completed pre-production for their new record. The band have already booked studio time, and plan to record starting July 9th. When asked to describe the record, here is what Chino said:

"I know everyone says this, but I think it will be the best album we've recorded I am very excited about because it sounds futuristic compared to our last album, Diamond Eyes — so it feels like a step forward."

Interesting choice of words. Sounding futuristic to me means a lot of experimentation with ambient sounds which can be fun. Either way, I'm really excited to hear what they have in store. Hopefully, we'll hear new music by the end of the year.
