Both groups, of course, share frontman Maynard James Kennan, and both groups are currently working on a new album. While Tool has said numerous times that the album is coming soon, and Maynard has said he has begun working on vocals for the new Tool album, we still don't have any sort of timeframe for a TOOL release. However, A Perfect Circle is practically guaranteeing a new album this year.

A Perfect Circle just announced a worldwide recording deal with BMG Music. Guitarist  Billy Howerdel was quoted as saying "We just signed a new record deal with BMG! Looking forward to sharing new music with you soon. New APC-2017!"

In an interview with Billboard earlier this year, Howerdel said he hopes to play new tracks on the band's coming tour "We're not promising anything, but I have every intention of doing my best to have us playing some new tracks during this run — with the idea that new music is coming very soon after."

Jon Cohen, EVP Recorded Music at BMG, said: "We're thrilled to welcome A Perfect Circle to BMG and excited to present their highly anticipated new music to the world. Their uncompromising approach, vision and legion of fans have made them one of the most artistic and commercially successful acts in rock."
