Obviously they're way better off than my band is now and living the dream so I won't fault them for that. Not really diggin the music though. Kinda mediocre, and not because it's death metal with break downs or rather break downs with the tiniest bit of death metal. I have heard other bands already traverse this sound and do it a little better. This feels very uninspired. How's that for a critique that's not vulgar or insulting? Setting the example. Let's see if we can all be grown ups.
There is nothing "death metal" about this song except for, arguably, some of the vocals. The instruments are all substandard deathcore. That being said, I thought that this song was overly simplistic and, quite frankly, boring. I liked the triplet diminished arpeggio runs in the middle, but other than that, I see nothing good here.

So, first of all, I am a big fan of Chelsea Grin and Deathcore in general. I know Chelsea Grin is over simple a lot of the times and that is one of the problems that I have with them but at the same time, I don't really need all the music that I listen too to be the most skillful thing in the world. If I was like that bands like Dream Theater would be my favorite and they bore the crap out of me.
As for the video, I actually liked it a lot. I thought it was going to be boring and stereotypical at first but I like how they threw that twist in at the end.

sick fucking video by a great fucking band. chelsea grin may be simplistic but they are a deathcore breakdown band they have no need to rip insain solos and use fast technical riffs. they go for heavy and they do a damn good job at it.
The crab dance is to the 2000s what the "hunch over" was to the 90's.
Chelsea Grin is far from my favourite band or most played, but when I want to chill out to breakdowns with brutal vocals they get the job done. They're a little boring if I'm looking for something else.
I consider myself to be a fan of deathcore, but after reading some of the forums on this kind of music the light is beginning to shed. I mean truly, once you listen to two or three of these bands you've listed to them all. There isn't much you can change up, they all have the same vocal ranges, drums/guitar/etc. patterns.
Yeah it's good for when you want to hear a couple of breakdowns, there sure as hell is plenty of 'em. That's probably why I like deathcore as much as I do.
I happen to think that none of you really understand why people really love this music. Yes, it's repetitive, yes it's "boring" and most of it sounds the same. But the lyrics change, the breakdowns last longer, get heavier or lighter. But regardless, it gives you this sense of pure "frak you." I listen to a breakdown and I feel invisible. So guess what? I love breakdowns. The more, the better.
So yes, you're all right. It's all pretty much the same. And it all makes me feel great.

hey thrash metal gallops and palm mutes are so overused and sound the same from every band,i hear no one bitching about that,so you cant talk about breakdowns.Pantera,Suffocation,Dying Fetus,Machine Head,Decapitated,etc. have breakdowns.

Well, like that first guy, they're definitely further along than MY band, but the music definitely is mediocre. The whole "Hardcore" movement is destroying the name of heavy metal. It kinda sucks.
