Will 2015 Be The Year Of The CLOUD RAT?

Cloud Rat is preparing to lay waste to 2015.

Cloud Rat is preparing to lay waste to 2015.

Michigan's Cloud Rat has the potential to be the next Pig Destroyer. That's big talk but it's true. I've been a fan since stumbling across their 2010 self titled debut album on Jay Randall's Grindcore Karaoke Bandcamp page, and the band's second full length Moksha was one of the best albums of 2013. After seeing them live in Brooklyn last year, I'm convinced they have a bright future in store if they keep at it.

Cloud Rat's a young band in both age and output, but the trio are already tight live and on record. They easily posses the furiosity of pre-Prowler in the Yard era Pig Destroyer and Madison Marshall's lyrics are well written and powerfully personal. Cloud Rat spent most of 2014 touring, but they recently announced that they're going to be spending January in the studio recording a new album. According to a Facebook post, they've finished tracking drums for the album and they expect to have the album completed by Spring. Just in time for a European tour.

Aside from a new album and European tour, they've also indicated there's another U.S. tour in the works as well as some possible splits and/or EP in addition to the full length. There haven't been any tour dates announced yet, but the band definitely has spots on Europe's Obscene Extreme Festival  in July and California's Deadfest in August. The gents in Piggie D also just invited the band to open for them on their upcoming Pittsburgh date at Altar Bar on January 31st. So, if you're fortunate enough to have ticket to that show, you're going to witness the best new grindcore band open for one of the legends in the scene. Enjoy that you lucky bastards. Below you can stream the band's set from last year's Brooklyn performance. It was recorded by Metal Injection's own Frank Huang, and it demonstrates that these young 'uns have some serious fire in their bellies.
