MEGATON LEVIATHAN Are Preparing To Conquer The West Coast; Release Debut LP

Portland's Megaton Leviathan play a style of doom metal called doomgaze. I'm not exactly sure what this micro-genre entails, but Megaton Leviathan are certainly great ambassadors of the style. The band layers doom metal, psych rock, and drone over a guitar/synth squall that's probably the source of the -gaze suffix. Maybe you've grown weary of the incessant genre splintering that's been a hallmark of extreme metal for decades, but check these Oregonians out anyway; it's not ever day that you run across a band creating something that sounds genuinely original.

As the band prepares for the release of their debut LP on Seventh Rule Recordings later this year, Megaton Leviathan are hitting the road to unleash their new material on a string of dates up and down the west coast. The tour launches on April 19th (Record Store Day) in Oakland, CA at The First Church of the Buzzard, and, if you live near one of the dates, you should come out and support these guys. Fellow Pacific Northwesterners Wolves In the Throne Room liked the band enough to take them on tour in 2011, and I can't disagree with their decision. The band's music is legitimately compelling and, based on live footage, their performances look interesting as well. Below you'll find a complete list of show dates and venues as well as footage of the band doing what they do. You left coast headbangers should do yourselves a favor and crawl out of your caves to see these guys shake the pillars of heaven.
