Get To Know Profound Lore Records (live footage of PALLBEARER, YOB, ATLAS MOTH and more)
I am absolutely loving these Scion A/V label showcase videos. If you missed it before, they've done profiles on Prosthetic Records, Nuclear Blast and Relapse. Now, Profound Lore gets the label treatment, and for a niche label putting out some of the best ambient/stoner metal out there, it's certainly exciting to see their bands get the spotlight. After the jump, more with label owner Chris Bruni as well as live footage of Yob, Atlas Moth, Loss, Wolvhammer and Pallbearer. (more…)

So What's It Like Touring With TOOL, Anyway?
You have to hand it to TOOL. They are so huge and such a force in mainstream rock, that when they announce an arena tour they could just take out some radio-friendly band, but instead, they chose to take out bands they enjoy: Intronaut and YOB. These are bands who are used to playing dive bars and shitty venues. To get an upgrade to playing arenas is a dream come true.
Intronaut have posted a blog about the experience on LA Weekly, and everything seems pretty rosy for the California quartet. Here is one of my favorite excerpts from the blog: (more…)

YOB Announce Tour Dates Around TOOL Tour
YOB are one of the two lucky bands who secured an opening slot on Tool's upcoming arena tour. It's quite a big deal for the band to play to a lot of people who probably never heard of them before. The band have now announced a few dates booked around the tour, to ease up the travel of leaving and coming back home from the arena tour. I highly recommend checking these guys out, if you enjoy your metal thick and doomy. Here are the dates: (more…)

YOB Destroy London
You may not have heard of Yob, even as a fan of doom you might not have known half of the bands on the line up for their show at the Purple Turtle on the 10th October 2011. That’s because Dead Existence, Dark Castle, Kongh and Yob lie within the deepest and darkest recesses of the underground of the underground. And yet some of these bands have reputations and followings that are able to fill the tiny Purple Turtle several times over. (more…)

A/V Roundup: Full album streams from Mike Portnoy's New Band, REVOCATION, YOB, New music from WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM, HELLA; BIG BUSINESS Teach Metal
It's late Tuesday, sorry about the lack of blog updates but my internet has been having problems and I spent all day hanging out with the foreman of Time Warner Cable. Very exciting. The best part is my internet is still fucked. Anyway, here is a roundup of all the new music that was posted today:
Hey, remember Mike Portnoy? We've written about him enough. Well he has a new band now called Adrenaline Mob. It features the guitarist of Fozzy and the vocalist from Symphony X. My one sentence review of this: Noa will love this! Above is their full EP stream
I highly suggest you stop reading this post and go listen to the new Revocation album streaming in full, I really don't know how else to convince you it's worth a listen. I've talked about it enough. (more…)

CD Review: YOB Atma
What the fuck is going on in Oregon? Some of the most forward thinking yet hazy, cerebral and generally unhappy music of recent years – Agalloch, Wolves in the Throne Room, Yob – has emerged, drunk on small batch craft brew, out of those fog shrouded hills to lay a vicious beating on our collective synapses. Surely the Black Flag/Sabbath-worshiping heritage of neighboring Washington state has rubbed off over the years, but in the past decade cities like Portland, Eugene and Salem have staked a legit claim for Oregon being the new center of musical creativity on the West Coast (LA's resurgence of indie rock being their only real competition, Seattle still largely reeling from their grunge hangover).

YOB: The Metal Injection Interview

As September 18th draws ever closer, the riff-hungry troops of doom are stocking up on earplugs and rolling papers, preparing to follow the sign of the Southern cross down towards their own uber-resinated version of Mecca. Past the Mason-Dixon line and just shy of Hell itself lies their destination - Asheville, North Carolina, which, thanks to a bevy of bands and some seriously ambitious promoters, is in turn gearing up to bear witness to the heaviest gig of the year. With the Metal Injection-sponsored (you're welcome) Planet Caravan Festival right around the corner and excitement running higher than Bobby Liebling on a day that ends in "y," we here at Metal Injection figured it was high time we gave y'all a peek behind the wall of sleep and unveiled a brand-new interview with those freshly resurrected, impossibly heavy and inescapably vital purveyors of cosmic, mind-altering "doom with a capital D and six extra O's," YOB.
Resident feedback worshipper Grim Kim caught up with YOB's Mike Scheidt for some gnarly Q&A action about stellar new record The Great Cessation, Planet Caravan, and the neverending triumph of DOOM (in all-Caps, of course). (more…)

AGE ETERNAL (MIDDIAN) break up; YOB Reunite, Prepare to Decimate Metal Fans Worldwide
AGE ETERNAL (formerly MIDDIAN) have disbanded. Originally formed in 2005 by Mike Scheidt after Yob's breakup, Middian released their one and only album, Age Eternal, in 2006. The record expounded upon Yob's epic tranced-out dirges by experimenting with elements of pure doom and post-hardcore, and was greeted by an overwhelmingly positive response from sludgefreaks and doom 'heads all over. Two years after the album was released by Metal Blade, Middian were contacted by a little-known local band from Milwaukee called Midian (note the single 'd') and were dragged into a grueling court battle over the rights to their band's name. They were dropped by Metal Blade, forbidden from selling their merchandise and records, and forced to change their name to Age Eternal. One long, uncertain year later, the band has called it quits.
"Our lawsuit is finally coming to a close. It has been a hard year, and we could not have done it without the support of the metal community world wide and the time and money people donated to our cause. We are eternally in your debt. Sadly, the lawsuit came with a high cost to us personally and interpersonally.
Scott Headrick is quitting the band and moving. Mike S felt he needed to back off from touring due to family and work/lack of work issues, cutting his touring commitment from 60-70 shows a year to a handful of shows, mostly local to the West Coast, for an indefinite amount of time, maybe permanently. This extreme change in direction, coupled with the immense stress of our lawsuit and inner conflicts in the band resulted in Scott's decision to move on with his life. Scott Headrick is the highest caliber of person. We mourn his loss, and support his need to take care of himself. We are very sad to share this news about Age Eternal, but are confident that it must and will open the doors for new music creation and growth.
Will Lindsay and Mike S will continue to write music with the goal of recording and doing some shows, under another name, as a new band and not Age Eternal. And with Will’s now full-time commitment playing guitar with the immaculate Wolves In The Throne Room, people should be expecting to see him in their hometown in the USA and abroad very soon.
Once again, we cannot thank the metal community and people who donated their money and time enough. We feel extremely fortunate to be a part of such a quality group of people, and we will pay your kindness and generosity forward."
On the bright side, according to the Mike Scheidt (guitars/vocals) himself, sorely-missed bringers of dooom YOB have reunited and plan to record a new album of original material that they hope to release in 2009. They also plan to play a limited number of West Coast, East Coast, and possibly UK/European shows, so keep an eye out for updates and get those frequent flier miles ready – this is one reunion you can't afford to miss.
