CD Review: YAKUZA Beyul

1350216290_1

Distressingly, the majority of Yakuza reviews still focus heavily on the alchemical influence the Chicago music scene has had on the band – noise rock, jazz, and industrial all writ large in the Windy City corpus – which is not so much erroneous as unfair, a fundamental if indeliberate underselling of what Bruce Lamont and his band mates bring to the table. THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases Out Today – 10/16

Dethklok - Dethalbum II LARGE

It's officially Oscar-qualifying season in the world of metal. You heard me right. Of course, I don't mean movies, but doesn't the same principle apply to both mediums? Release your shit at the end of the year, stay fresh in people's minds for the award season. Because, honestly, who the hell remembers what was released in January? It's a smart tactic and we all benefit, as we're likely to see a steady stream of huge releases from now until December. Last week saw the release of four giant albums, and this week we see a ton more, of which include releases from Dethklok, My Dying Bride, The HAARP Machine, and Yakuza. So let's get to it. Here are all the new releases coming out today: (more…)

Audio Roundup: New music from CRADLE OF FILTH, AS I LAY DYING, THY WILL BE DONE, YAKUZA and DECEASED

It's Friday! The weekend is so close, I can taste it. Then again, that could just be my lunch. Eww. Let's get to the music:

Cradle of Filth put out a new song today and…I don't hate it. That's a particularly snarky review of the song, but only because a lot of the band's recent output was pretty terrible. This is not terrible. The track is “For Your Vulgar Delectation” and it comes off the album The Manticore and Other Horrors, which is released October 30th via Nuclear Blast. Check it out:

Our buddies in Thy Will Be Done are streaming a new track off their EP, Temple over at AbsolutePunk. You can also check out a behind the scenes feature on the making of the EP here. (more…)

Attention, Stoners:

FINALLY! A compilation of doom/sludge bands covering PINK FLOYD

Tribute to Syd BarrettHoly fuck! Somebody had the brilliant idea to get a bunch of stonery doomy sludge bands to cover a bunch of PINK FLOYD songs, arguably the greatest stoner band ever. The project is being called Like Black Holes in the Sky: The Tribute to Syd Barrett, and features covers by JESU, INTRONAUT, KYLESA, DREDG, UNEARTHLY TRANCE, YAKUZA and more.

Really, its a who's who of awesome bands covering (in this humble blogger's opinion) the awesomest band of all time. The fine people at Dwell Records have posted a player streaming this amazing CD in its entirety. Listen to this compilation in all of its awesomeness, after the jump… (more…)
