Go to http://bit.ly/kg0FLo to watch all the Metal Injection Golden Gods coverage – William Shatner was receiving the honorary headbanger award at the 2011 Revolver Golden Gods. He talked to Rob on the black carpet for a few moments about his new CD, working with Zakk Wylde and the band SHAT.
William Shatner (The SHAT, as I like to call him) and Zakk Wylde collaborated on a cover of Black Sabbath's "Iron Man." It is set to be released on The Shat's upcoming album, Seeking Major Tom. The album is a concept cover album featuring additional covers by David Bowie, Queen, Deep Purple, Elton John and Pink Floyd. This cover came out last week, but I just tracked it down during my regular RSS perusals. It is, uh, interesting: (more…)
Just announced: William Shatner will be receiving the Honorary Headbanger Award at this year's Revolver Golden Gods Awards. From a pure promotional stand point, this makes sense. We learned a few moths ago that Shatner is making a rock record, so he's using the awards platform to promote his new album, and Revolver will use his name to gather a bit of extra press for metal's only award show in the United States. While on the black carpet, we had the honor of interviewing last year's honoree, Robert Englund, so I'm extra psyched at the possibilty of getting some face time the Shat.
While we were away on our little metal booze cruise, one ridiculous news story almost slipped through the cracks: Zakk Wylde is recording guitars for a track on William Shatner's upcoming Seeking Major Tom, which is being touted as a collection of 'sci-fi, space-themed songs.' Zakk is helping the Shat covet the Black Sabbath classic 'Iron Man' (a little awkward, but ok) and not only that, as the clip above shows, he is not above giving Zakk some advice on how to play his instrument. Between this and Ozzy collaborating with Bieber, can somebody please check if hell has frozen over? We may have missed it.
