PESTILENCE announce U.S. Tour with VITAL REMAINS, WARBRINGER

More than a few metalheads were bummed when Pestilence couldn't make it to the Maryland Deathfest last year. Looks like the band is planning to make that up that date this year, and even head out on a full U.S. run, their first in 16 years. It all starts at this year's MDF on May 30th after which the band will be joined by Warbringer, Vital Remains, Enfold Darkness and . Here are the announced dates: (more…)

NEUROSIS, MASTODON, BORIS, NACHTMYSTIUM, HIGH ON FIRE, CRYPTOPSY, & More on one show – ABSOLUTELY FREE!!
So apparently, instead of taking the traditional route and advertising on TV, billboards, etc, Scion has decided to host music festivals instead as a means of promoting their brand. Strange? I thought so too, until I saw the lineup for their "Rock Fest." Holy mother of fuck, I don't care WHAT they're selling – any company that brings together the likes of NEUROSIS, HARVEY MILK, NACHTMYSTIUM, WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM, KRALLICE, ZOROASTER, and SALOME (for FREE) is a-okay by me.
According to their official site, the Scion Rock Fest will take place on Saturday, February 28th at the Masquerade in Atlanta, Georgia. The show will go from noon until midnight and attendees must be at least 18 years old. Tickets are, apparently, free; no word yet on how one will be able to go about getting one's grubby paws on one of these golden tickets (though our brodudes over at MetalSucks.net will be giving some away to a few lucky readers).
THE LINEUP (read 'em and weep!):
NEUROSIS
MASTODON
CONVERGE
HIGH ON FIRE
BORIS
1349
CRYPTOPSY
TORCHE
NACHTMYSTIUM
WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM
BARONESS
HARVEY MILK
KYLESA
ZOROASTER
WITHERED
KRALLICE
TOXIC HOLOCAUST
SKELETONWITCH
RWAKE
A STORM OF LIGHT
WARBRINGER
SALOME
SUIDAKRA
TYR
ALESTORM
With, apparently, more to come, if their website is to be believed. I don't know about you, but as soon as I saw this confirmed, I hopped online and booked a flight for Hotlanta. Honestly? If you have any of your wits, limbs, or available personal days left, you're a sucker if you don't do the same.

WARBRINGER's vocalist discusses KREATOR's influence in new column

Seeing as though WARBRINGER vocalist John Kevill pretty much shits obscure thrash bands, we thought it would be beneficial to our loyal junkies if he were to school them in the fine art of obscure thrash. So, every once in a while, John will write up a piece about a band you absolutely need to check the fuck out in a little piece we call ThrashBringer. We start things off slow with the not so obscure KREATOR:
Probably the first thrash band that really made me click with the genre was Kreator. At the point that I first heard Pleasure to Kill and Coma of Souls, which I got at the same time, my exposure to thrash had been pretty limited; I was mostly into the more traditional metal stuff. I hadn't really gone far past Priest and Maiden. I was into some speed/power metal too, like Blind Guardian and early Helloween, but this was a different and more vicious beast altogether. The first couple times I heard Pleasure to Kill I thought it was a total mess, it was rawer, sloppier, and all around nastier than anything I'd heard up to that point. But then it clicked. THIS ALBUM IS HERE TO BRING YOU ZE DEATH! The songwriting is there too, and the thickly German accented vox (for both Mille and Ventor) is evil as evil gets (AWAIT! ZE AXE IN YOUR BACK!) .
I consider the first 5 Kreator albums to be total classics, each one notable in its own way, getting more progressive and technical on each release but never losing the intensity and heaviness. Extreme Agression and Coma of Souls both have a tech-thrash edge to them, but they still rip your face off. I'd put the classic Kreator output over the classic period of any of the big 4, or possibly anyone else in thrash. Still one of my all time favorite bands, and a huge influence on our music. We are gonna be touring with them in the states, It'll be amazing for me as a fan to be opening up for one of my favorite bands every night.
WARBRINGER is on tour now with FINTROLL. Click here for details. Stay tuned for more ThrashBringer in the coming weeks.

WARBRINGER talk thrash in new Metal Injection interview (plus new tour dates with FINTROLL)
A few weeks back, we had the opportunity to hang with California thrash metal outfit WARBRINGER. The band speaks very candidly about its beginnings, getting signed to Century Media, and its dream thrash tour lineup. When asked how they feel about this whole "thrash revival," guitarist John Laux stated "That's what they're calling it. We have a different attitude about it though. We didn't start the band going 'Let's revive the corpse of '80s thrash metal.' We were like 'let's play metal that is really metal.'" It's a cool interview, peep it above…
Also, the band has just announced a slew of tour dates with FINTROLL. That sounds like an awesome bill. Thrash and folk metal? How can you go wrong? Dates below..
